What is the etiquette for...

What is the etiquette for...a grown up fishing on a fish pond stocked primarily for children's recreation in the summer. The reason I ask is becasue there is a city managed fish pond by my house that no one ice fishes and I was thinking about trying it out but I have some feelings that it isn't quite right. Before I head over there I would love to hear what others have to say on this subject.

i doubt anyone would care if you did, but if you do feel bad about fishing on it just throw all the fish back...

Bring a kid with you. Its not always easy to keep a child entertained on the ice, but hopefully you can find some fish and share the experience with some youngins........

I like both of the previous responses to your post. After hearing those opinions if you still feel "not quite right " about the idea than it should be easy to make the right decision. If you question whether a thing is right or wrong-it's wrong. The choice is ultimately yours and I highly doubt if anyone would condemn you for giving it a try except maybe you from the sound of it .Have a good day!-Troy

Wisconsin DNR stocks a dozen or so ponds in urban areas for youth fishing programs. Because the funds used are not segregated, any licensed angler can fish the ponds -- BUT, the DNR makes every effort to keep adults from fishing. As said above, take a kid along. Otherwise, try another body of water.

If your not afraid to get out fished by some kids bring a few out to try it.

If it was stocked for kids it most likely has panfish and the like in it. They should have something to catch and keep busy with if there are panfish around.

You may wish to call the DNR first an check to what the lake status is as far as open to the public or not in the winter.

Then take a few kids fishing, it will be fun.

Take a kid. Iowa has several of these and I never would have fished them without a kid, but lots of others did and it really isn't that big of deal. You will see lots of other people out there that don't have kids with. Many don't have the equipment to fish other lakes, such as an auger,so they would need to borrow one or use someone else's holes. If you are willing to share some fishing tips with some of the people out there that aren't getting anything you would be the "hit of the pond". Help others kids catch fish.ScottS

Thanks, for the great ideas folks. its that type of positivity that makes this site so great. I've got a 16 month old boy and he's still a little young but I'm going to talk my wife into letting me take him out there.

I agree totally. I have a 2 yr old daughter and 2 yr old nephew that go with me when I take may permanent shack and they love it, just don't plan on catching alot yourself but it's a good trade off. Words can't describe the look on their faces. They become addicted to every fishing show on TV afterwards. Good luck and spread the fishing spirit.
