Heavy Duty duck call

Recommended Posts

Digging through my dad's gun cabinet, I found a duck call made by The Heavy Duty Call Co. by Howard Harlan in Nashville, TN. It was given to him for being in my uncle's wedding and has sat in its box ever since. It's a double-reed black rosewood hand-checkered call.

I have been trying to find out as much as I can about the calls, but basically all I've gotten is that they are a collector call, as I can't get the actual HSOforum to open. The paper that came with it says the call sells for $150. Anyone have any experience with them or anything interesting?? I'm thinking about putting it to use this fall.

Does it have the green box? The best place to find out info is CCO but I know they wont let me publish the HSOforum here. I have seen that he is still alive and that he is a very nice guy. I know how to get his # for you, just send me an email. Contact info in my Profile.

Is this an older call/antique? I dont know anything about it but the guy I guide for is one of the top apraisers for antique waterfowl gear in the country. If you would like I could give you his contact info and I am sure he could tell you something about it.

Well the calls were made to be collector items in the first place as far as I can tell. It is about 16 years old and has never seen anything but the inside of that box. I had just remembered my dad had it and since I have started to become more of a waterfowl addict with each year, I wanted to learn more about it-like if I should be taking it out in the blind since I need a good double-reed or buy an Echo and keep this in its box. I think I will be doing the latter and put this one on display when I get my own house someday.
