tex22
This is not what your dog is going through, but I have a bloodhound and when he is cold his teeth chatter just like a person. Kinda funny too see
DuluthGuy
Yes, when they are excited or cold(i.e. duck hunting) Otherwise, look to a vet for help.B2
GoodToGo
My GWP chatters whenever she gets excited, it's always good for a laugh. Also when she is cold.
LABS4ME
Sometimes when a dog is working a strong scent (ie: a male smelling a female in heat urine) they come up "popping" or chattering their teeth. This usually happens for a good 20-30 seconds after they are down smelling whatever it was... I've watched this for several days now with my male. Good Luck!Ken
brittman
If a dog's teeth are chattering while hunting in cold or very cold weather - be careful your dog may becoming hypothermic. Just like heat exhaustion, dogs can become sick or possible die from exposure to the elements.
DuluthGuy
Britman - good point. I would add that I am referencing a lab and that it would take below freezing temp's in the wind to start the hypotheric process. My lab would alway start chattering soon as she got in the duck blind. However. a brittney or a short-hair would be more exposed and require watching. Now, if my wife would agree to dog # 4 we could have a chessy - now theres a cold water mutt for ya! B2
