Hawg
Boar, It's extremely easy but a dirty job that's a lot easier now than in the winter. Block up your house then loosen the winch cable and get some slack. Then just take the keeper pin out of the pivot pipe and slide the whole assembly off. It's heavy so be ready for the weight. I take the wheels off just because it's easier to work on but you really don't have to.Use Gunk or some other degreaser to clean both pipes, at this point use a wire brush and a drill to clean up any scale that's inside the outer pipe and the same to the inner pipe. Grease the two pipes up good with waterproof grease and slide them back together. It's not a bad time to put on new cable even if yours look good, cable is very cheap. Popping the cap off your hub to check the bearings is easy at the same time as well as checking the rear seals on the back side. Easiest time to polish that God Forsaken diamond plate too if you have it. I really hate diamond plate, never again for me. Boar

Hawg
You'll do just fine. Usually there's a washer behind the pin so if the coating you're talking about is bed liner or something like it it comes off easily. Block the house high enough so it's comfortable to work on, mine was probably about the height it sits with the wheels on. Blocking it makes it easier to work inside the house on other projects more comfortable also if you level it. I doesn't wobble that way. Any waterproof grease will work. Be sure the pulleys move freely at the same time. There's no easier time to paint, clean, polish, change cables and/or clamps, or anything else as when those assemblies are off so you can get in there. Wear old cloths, you will get dirty.
