115 HP Optimax

Big Bobber

Recommended Posts

We have a 2006 150 Optimax and have been very happy. I'll give you likes / dislikes top of mind.

Likes:

Efficiency (seems to sip gas)

Gets our 18 foot Lund going in a hurry - good hole shot

Reliable if you stay on top of the impeller (see below)

SmartCraft guages for additional data and control of trolling speeds (SmartCraft may be extra or an option)

Dislikes:

Impeller within water pump requires replacement every two years

Have to raise your voice to carry a conversation in this baby at speed

If you have other specific questions I can try and answer them.

I'll give you personal experience, but it is somewhat subjective.

In terms of pulls a lot of amps to start ? Not sure I've always used good Interstate starting batteries and never had a problem.

I would say the battery charge is strong. I tend to babysit those things and it tends to overcharge the starting battery pretty well as you run it. Again, never had a problem starting with our 2006 150 Optimax.

Heard it pulls a lot of amps to start and the battery charge may be weak. True or false?

True and false.

Needs enough charge to activate computer system. If there isn't, it won't start eve if it turns over. Need a starting battery with at least 1000 mca.

Mine charges just and at times use a jumper to charge the trolling batteries in my warrior.

I have a 2005 115 Optimax Tiller.

I had to send in my fuel and oxygen injectors to be cleaned last fall. Not much other than the usual maintenance so far.
