Top Water

Just wondering do you guys start fishing top water lures this early in the season or do you wait for more weed growth?

I've already got several on top water. prop baits and zoom horny toads.

I've had many on top already. It seems early but they still smoke em. Early in the morning is the best time just like most of the year. Fish shallow structure. Weeds are growing up already just not all they way to the surface so fish over the top of them.

Tossing frogs put quite a few fish in the boat for me yesterday. I have at least one topwater lure tied on from opening weekend til I put the boat to bed in the fall.

My son and I had one of those banner days on Monday fishing with Zara Spooks in the middle of the day. Mostly big Smallies, but also caught some nice L.Ms. The surface was pretty smooth with the exception of the waves cause by all the rec boats. The fish were in about 4' or less on the edge of scattered bullrush stuble with rocky/gravel bottom.
