givetoget
Santa brought me a Garmin 450t. I am wondering what are my options for lake map chips or down loads.I know NOTHING about this lake map stuff. Help with brands, the prefered or the not prefered what will work what will not. Also where to get them. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated. I mainly fish Wisconsin and the surrounding states. Thanks again
boxcar46
this is what I would go with. go to link below and click on Upper Midwest Fishing Guide https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?cID=254&fKeys=FILTER_REGION_NORTHAMERICA
MN Mike
Look at Garmins Upper Midwest Fishing Guide data card, I would recommend getting the MicroSD card rather than a download or DVDIf you go to Garmins site and search for it, you can actually test drive the map data, its just a taste, the actual product is much better. If you are close to any of the big outdoor stores, they might have it, otherwise Reeds is a good bet.Mike
givetoget
OK thanks for the replies. I understand that you download the down load and dvd version, but with the microSD card do you still down load that into your gps or do you put the card in and leave it in to use it. I guess I am asking how that works. Sorry for what may seem like a dumb ? but I dont know much about these new gps's and the technology behind them. Thanks Again
dfeste
The card stays in the unit while being used. I can't say for certain since I've never had an Oregon in my hand bu,t I believe the card slot will be inside the battery compartment under where the AA batteries go. That's where it is on my GPSMap 78.
MN Mike
With the microsd card you can just drop it in and run. The nice thing about the microsd card is you can swap it between Garmin gps devices that accept micro or regular sized sd cards. If you download from Garmin or use the Garmin dvd you can only use that product in the Oregon 450 you have, it is ' tied ' to that device and cannot be transferred to another Garmin gps device. This only applies to Garmin branded products. If you have more questions, ask away, that's what these forums are for.Mike
