  1. Also no party fishing for Trout. If you give someone a Trout it count on your limit and there.
  2. I have never been big in the scatter gun arena but the old school recoil operated A5 is one that I do love to shoot. Mostly because the 20ga 3" mag fit me, I would bring it up and I would be looking right down that nice long sight plain. The A5 can be heavy but you said you were after ducks so heavy isn't necessarily bad. Get a gun that fits you. Try them on for size.
  3. Hay WS21, I see your from my neck of the woods. Did you know there are no Green, Yellow and Red traffic lights in Le Sueur Co. Use the salt/brown sugar brine. You could add Bay leaf, garlic and, or Black Pepper corns. To your taste. I like Alder for smoke. It seems to be the classic fish smoking wood. It is all good!
  4. Try a Number 1 or 2 red and white Mepps Aglia near small dams. I can't guarantee small ones but if Bowfin are in the area thay will let you know. Reel in just fast enough to keep it off the bottom and the spinner blade turning.
  5. I have noticed if the Sheephead is silver in color there is no fat along the lateral line so if you want to try them for the first time I would suggest not keeping them if they have a bronze color.
  6. I do not know much about the spring bite for Sheephead but I do know when they are silver they are lean white meat. When they are bronze in color thay have a fat layer unddr the skin. Down in south central Mn there is a lake called Volney. If you troll a #6 Hornet in June you can catch 100s of them in a day. A friend and I once caught 50 doubles of Sheephead in one afternoon. Unbelievable!
  7. I just don't know what is going on at this site now. I used to come here to learn fishing. It now seams like it is more how to get around laws and rules of good fishing. First off I don't care who you want to give fish to, The Church, Old people or the homeless. I don't care! If you are breaking the law, you are breaking the the LAW. You are a criminal. It is unjustifiable. Quote:all i want is a FISH FRY! Have them bring there own fish! Have it at the landing so you can go fishing and eat what you and all of your fishing buddies have caught (within limits). Some of you need to take the next step in fishing. Once you get so good you need to learn conservation. Until then you are just a rookie or maybe a stooge. When you learn fishing you take on responsibility #$@%$#. I'm just banging my head against a tree/wall here, aren't I. You can't fix stupid! If you want to help someone. Teach them how to fish (the right way). I think I read somewhere that it's the good thing to do. Something like "give a man a fish and you feed him for a day". As I said at the beginning of this post "I just don't know what is going on at this site now". To barrow a phrase from the Eagles " Justify our endless needs"? Because when I read this it sure read like a lot of you were looking for justification to "bend" the law. This may be the last post I make here so I will try to make it clear. Exploit, Exploit, Exploit, Exploit, Exploit, Exploit, Exploit, Exploit, Exploit, Exploit, Exploit, Exploit, Exploit, Exploit, Exploit, Exploit. Make sure you get your share even at the cost of others! So You can take more then you need a give it away, wow what a Hee-Man!
  8. There is a place that rhymes with (he play) that let you know what it is worth.
  9. Ask yourself, is Floatright park at Apple river a camping area or a party spot. Do you cook food at the camping area or make a run to town. Do you cook in doors or outside. Are you getting away or taking it with you. Do you need new skills. Is the main objective outdoors. Does a Boy Scout manual apply to anything you are doing. Are you really camping? Is renting a cabin camping? Is staying at a hotel near a park camping? Is sleeping next to the tracks waiting for a train camping? Is going into the Chippewa Natiol Forest to a remote lake camping? Sorry I can't answer for you. Quote:Alcoholic's don't need RVs, they need alcohol!!! I was trying to to down play the drug thing, but if we must. How about working your way up Cheyenne Mountain or Pikes Peak and burning a big fat one full of Northern Lights and watching the world go by down in Colorado Springs. Much, much better in a tent!!!!!!!!!!!!
  10. It is a make shift setup I used. A burner reel (7:1) and fluorocarbon line. Not what I would call the optimum setup for fishing Flukes.
  11. I was talking to one of those self proclaimed fishing experts last week. He was telling me about the white meat in all the Brown Bullheads he has. Then he went on to describe them. White barbell under the chin and ..... Now hold on. This so called expert doesn't know a Bullhead from a Channel Catfish. I told him that he was describing a Catfish but he wouldn't hear that. Some how they always find a way to justify there actions. I just wonder if they realize how pathetic they sound. An expert without a clue. This is a guy I had to lecture last year about leaving stacks of Bowfin lying on the shore to rot and stink up the area.
  12. I know when I was learning how to fish there were more questions then answers. So I come here to find answers and to give them when I can. I am on my third name here. Red_ball, Muddog and now this one. I can't believe I miss spelled comet and had to add a 2 behind it, like someone else has that call name. Oh well. Sorry, but if I see someone posting just to muddy the water I just can't help myself, I just have to call them out on it. I would like to have Muddog back though. Keep up the good job and I am glad you are here!
  13. Wow. (1) Sound travels much better underwater then in the air. With that said, It all depends on the fishes mood. Just to give an answer. I would have to say I try for boat control to put my lure within 5 feet of the fish holding structure. (2) This is an art. You need to do this kind of thing over and over to get the feel for it. Buck Perry had a way to teach this where you have your lure tic the bottom. Let me explain. You have a small bar that runs out from shore 100 yards. As with most bars there is a saddle area before the end. You want to check the end of the bar that tops out a 8 feet deep. So, you need a system. Find a lure that runs 9 feet with X amount of line out. Now set up a trolling run that will cross over it (GPS waypoint) now wait for your lure to bonce over the top of the bar. The fish will most likely hit just as the lure starts to break free of the bar and free swim. Now you can fine tune your line out to just tic the top of the bar and you are well on your way. If you do this long enough you will find times when you have the right lure with the right amount of line out but you just can't make contact with bottom so you let more and more line out to make contact and your not making contact, then all of a sudden you are plowing the bottom with your lure. No worries, This is something you will run across, especially where the saddle is on bars (It is why there is a saddle). You just ran into a cross currant that was sweeping your lure up off the bottom. Next time through don't let more line out and you should fine the edges of the current and maybe fish at the edges. You will find a hand full of different lure that you will settle on for most of your trolling in time. Hot'N'Tots and Banana baits have an instability built into them so they kick out once in a while so they are not a good first choice for learning trolling lure control 101.
