  1. I have a Magellan SporTrak Pro and love it. It often gets me back to within three feet of saved coordinates. It is easy to use as well.
  2. I have a Shappell 2000. It was a pain to pull in the snow, and even harder with things loaded on top. I got the ski kit last year and what a difference. It is like you are pulling nothing at all. I store it in its original box in the off season. It takes up very little room.
  3. I have had a SporTrak Pro for a year now and I love it. I found out the hard way that it floats and is waterproof. Just tiny bit of moisture got in, just enough to fog the screen ever so slightly. It cleared out and works fine. It is easy to use and the instructions are quite good. I have found it to be very accurate. When going back to a spot on the lake that I have previously marked it always gets me within two (2) feet! I absolutely love it. The only thing I didn't like about the purchase is that the company that handles the rebates for Magellan stinks. Had a hard time getting mine.
  4. Corey I use mine in a shanty, the handles don't get cold in your hand. When I first pick one up when I change rods it is cold but warms right up. I haven't found it to be a problem.
  5. I bought my third one this afternoon. I have a medium, light, and now, an ultralight. I am replaceing cheap rods with them. They are very sensitive in actual use on the ice.
  6. My depthfinder is still working great, haven't had any problems with it and it is still right on as far as depth acuracy.
  7. I have use my FishEasy II on the ic efor the last two years. Here's what I do. -I put it in a clear rubbermaid container and cut foam insulation to fit in the bottom to help insulate the bottom from the cold. -Use a rechargeable 12v battery, one that fits inside the case. -I turn all the added features off, like fish alarm, fish and things like that. -I set the Scroll Speed to 100%. -Use the Split Screen so I can zoom in on the bottom. -I adjust the sensitivity so that I can just see the lure I am using at the time. I usually set it so that it occassionally looses the lure on the screen. I think this helps reuduce the clutter on the screen. -I mounted the transducer on an old tip-up. This has worked for me. I also use mine in a portable shelter.
  8. Used the hand held depth finder again yesterday on some rough and uneven surface on the ice and it wouldn't get a reading. Seems like it works best on nice smooth ice. Tried it on some ice that was milky in color and got a good reading though.
  9. I checked min last evening against my regular depth finder and got the same depth readings. It reads very quickly through the ice but we only have 3" - 4" around here. I think it is worth the price. Oh, it doesnt seem to get the air temp quite right but water temp seems on.
  10. I got two packages of them in the smaller size. I caught a crappie on one, but ice fishing is just getting started here. I don't know if they will be better, I just looked at them as something different to show the fish.
  11. I used mine today again while fishing and had my depth finder with me. It gave me the same depth readings. I use an Eagle FishEasy II and with the skimmer transducer it just wont read through the ice for me. Thats why I decided to try this one, for me it is $50 well spent.
  12. I am from northwestern PA, Meadville.
  13. It works. Tried it out this morning. I was only shooting through 3"-4" of ice though. I had a bottle of water with me and just squeezed some onto the ice and it gave me a reading. Seems to be quite accurate, I will find out more later today when I head out fishing and can compare it to my fish finder. I will be more interested to see how it does on thicker ice. Hope this helps.

S.D. I have the Magellan SporTrak Pro. The Magellan units do float, found out the hard way. I had the smallest bit of moisture get in, fogged the display ever so slightly. Dried out and haven't had a single problem with it. Unfortunately my cell phone ended up in Davey Jones locker.
  16. Wounded minnow, I got one of those today and will try it out on the ice tomorrow. I will post the results here when I see how it does. It is the NorCross DF2120PX.
  17. fisheye, Got one today and will try it out on the ice tomorrow. I'll post the results here.
  18. I have a Magellan SporTrak Pro. Works great and floats! Found out the hard way this summer.
  19. I got two of them, a light action and medium action. I paid $35.00 for them and they are worth it to me. They seem to be well made, good guides and are very light. They are every bit as sensitive as they claim to be. Kevin
  20. Frabill Amplifer rods, I got one in light action and one medium action. They are quality built rods, very light and great line guides. I have only been able to use them once so far, but I feel they are well worth the money. They are as sensitive as they claim to be. I don't think you could go wrong with them.
  21. I have used my FishEasy 2 for the last two years. I turn up the Scroll Speed to 100%, and adjust the Sensitivity so that I can just see my jig , spoon, etc. I think it works great.
  22. I have a Magellan SporTrak Pro. A great unit, easy to use, and very accurate. It was dropped in a lake this summer and it floats as advertised. A very tiny bit of moisture got in it but it dried out in no time and works great. The only "problem" I have had was with the rebate company. Was a big hassle to finally get it.
  23. I have always tried using chartruse hooks when fishing for walleye. This spring while fishing with my nephew he was practicing his casting and a walleye came up and smacked a bare chartruse hook he had on. I'd like to find some trebles in that color.
  24. I bought a StorTrak Pro this past spring and I love it. It is easy to use both manually and using computer software, and seems to be quite accurate. I have used it for fishing, car trips, and GeoCaching. Only two things have disappointed me. One was the mail in rebate that I had great difficulty in obtaining and the second is the retaining clip on the screw for the battery comparment broke. I tipped my canoe over this summer and it got soaked. It floated as advertised and got just a tiny bit of moisture in it but it dryed out and continues to work fine. Kevin
  25. Does anyone know how tall the hand auger is? I want to buy one but I am only 5'6" and it looks like it would be too tall for me to comfortably use. From everything I have read they are great augers. Kevin
