Indiana Mike's Achievements

  1. I often tie a 3' fluro leader to a small swivel attached to power-pro braid. This seems to work well and reduces line twist.
  2. Mrpike, Get a swimming pool thermometer. They are quite portable and easy to use. I used on for year before I had a depth finder with a temp gauge. Good luck,
  3. I experienced the same problem. CS wanted $169 to repair. When asked if this has been a reoccurring problem they claimed ignorance. In my opinion Lowrance products should be avoided. I now have a Garmin Oregon 450. I transferred my waypoints using EZGPS.
  4. MN Mike, Thanks for the tip. I only get to fish in Minnesota a couple of weeks a year. My waypoints have been saved over the past several years and I would hate to loose them. I will definitely check out the export to SD. Regards, Indiana Mike
  5. My H2Oc no longer acquires a signal and is useless. It will be a long time before I purchase another product from Lowrance. I also have a Garmin 265W primarily for use in the car. I plan to buy an AC/DC converter/charger and the Garmin compatible 2009 LakeMaster Minnesota, MicroSD Card for about $100. I guess I will loose all of my saved waypoints from the Lowrance but at least I will have a GPS to use on the water.
  6. Fivebucks, Where do you get your non-oxy fuel when fishing Island Lake. Can you get it at Fisher's in Northome or at Squaw Lake? Regards, Indiana Mike
  7. I agree with Ross. I seldom anchor anymore. With the MinnKota Maxxuum it is easy to hold position or thoroughly work a hump, point or drop off. Vertical jigging with soft plastics (Berkley Power Baits or Gulp) is my favorite technique when conditions permit. Good luck. Indiana Mike
  8. Oldtyme, I'm from Crown Point. I don't fish much in the area now but used to fish the chain north of Valparaiso and Fishtrap in Laporte. Another favorite spot is James Lake north of Warsaw. Most of my fishing these days is done up north of Bemidji, MN. Regards, Indiana Mike
  9. I have the Lowrance X-135 and it works great as a portable. I purchased a dual suction cup teflon mount from Vexilar to minimize the risk of the transducer coming loose and getting chopped in the prop. (Been there, done that.) It takes a little experimenting to get the mount correctly positioned but once done I can go full out with my 15hp Merc without loss of signal. I also use an H20c attached to the X-135. Indiana Mike
  10. I have owned numerous PC's over that past 26 years. My first was an Atari 800 I purchased in 1980. My last four PC's were all Dell's. Three desktops and one laptop. Whenever I have had a problem (either hardware or software), and there haven't been too many, Dell was always there to support me. You might pay a little more for the name but for me the added security in knowing that support is a phonecall away is well worth the price. By the way I am doing much more with the laptop than I ever did with the desktops. You will not sacrifice functionality by opting for portability. Regards, Indiana Mike
  11. I purchased the H2Oc+ with the MN Lakemaster chip in August. I mounted the unit in the car with a bit of velcro and was able to use it all of the way from Indiana up to Northome MN. After we arrived on Island Lake I attached the unit to my portable depthfinder and used it in the rental boat all week. I powered it off my deep cycle trolling motor battery. I was very pleased with the performance and features with just a couple of exceptions. On bright sunny days it was sometimes difficult to read the screen with sunglasses on. Some of the contour lines on the Lakemaster map of Island Lake were less than precise while others were right on as verifed by the depthfinder. One big plus was being able to set waypoints and return back to them. I would certainly recommend you take a look at the H2Oc if your considering a portable unit. Indiana Mike
  12. I know what you mean. I have an Old Town Kingfisher. A great canoe for fishing. Very stable. But too heavy to easily manhandle when going solo. as a result I don't use it as much as I would like to. Indiana Mike
  13. Congratulations Mark. That sure beats the 16" Walleye we caught on Island Lake. Indiana Mike
  14. Merry Christmas and best wishes for the New Year to all. Indiana Mike
