propster
A friend's brother died recently and he was apparently into muskie fishing where he lived in Michigan. He is looking for a home for his equipment, and I may be able to get my hands on it relatively inexpensively - rods, reels, lures. He's got a few reels I am not familiar with - a couple Ambassadeur Morrum 6600CL and a couple Ambassadeur 2600C IAR. The 2600 are round handle reels and don't appear to be really built for musky fishing, but the Morrums look interesting. Can anyone tell me if they've used these, will they hold up, and are they worth anything? There are 2 new in the box and 1 used. Any thoughts would be appreciated. RuKiddingMe
Go for the Morrums they are workhorses. The 6600's have the level wind and the 5600's do not. I have a 5600 and love the reel but I really wish it had the level wind. I have had the reel probably 5 years now and never had any problems with it. last I checked the 5600's were retailing at around 219.00 (but you could get them much cheaper) and the 6600's were around 249.00 I think. You'd enjoy them and would be worth looking at.RU
propster
Thanks RU. Do you know what the gear ratio is? Will they accept the power handle? Are these an older model - I don't see them mentioned anywhere on Abu's web site.
RuKiddingMe
Propster - here are your specs on the reels. It looks like abu discontinued the model. I'm 99% sure they will take the power handles.M5600C 4BB + 1RB 5.1:1 175/14 11.5 OZM6600CL 4BB + 1RB 5.1:1 290/12 12.4 OZRU
propster
I appreciate it - may give them a go. If I end up with a bunch of stuff that I can't use, is there an outlet for people looking for rods, reels, or lures, maybe someone just starting out that's looking to get into some decent equipment? If it goes well I'll acquire some other reels, some G Loomis rods, and probably a few boxes of baits. I already have a bunch, so I may look to part with some. RuKiddingMe
There is always an outlet for used Musky fishing gear. Check out other internet forums specific to musky fishing or shoot me an email and I can help you find them, heck I may be interested in some of it.RU

primetime49
I have a pair of 6600s and they are fool proofWhen someone wants to go casting with me they have been fool proofthey also look nice and are probaly the most expensive of my reels so after several thousand casts I appreciate their longevityso if you are going for value base they are worth having as some other reels I have added since are now junk
