Tom Wilson
This little gal has figured out how to obtain an easy meal here at the Wilson bird sanctuary. I have four humminbird / oriole feeders that hang on poles around the deck. Even at around 17 feet in the air, the ants still find their way to the feeders. Not to even mention the flies, and the wasps, etc... This female Downy has figured out that she can come to the feeders and then pick the bugs off one by one. She will hop from one feeder to the next until she is full, and then she'll dissappear for a little while, then return and do it all over again. She actually drinks a little from the feeders as well. What's funny is watching her peck the side of the feeder to try and get the ants and flies that got caught inside. I got this snap of her when it was really overcast the other day. I used my flash to compensate for the backlighting, and it produced a very nice high key background.
