Lowrance 332c - GPS not responding

montanagriz

Question

Just finished installing my new Lowrance 332c on the boat today, went to turn it on and received a message that the GPS module is not responding. I checked and it is not in demo mode. When you look at the status page it's not even attempting to lock onto any satellites. All the cables are connected properly. At this point I am stuck...anybody have any ideas? This is extremely frusterating. When you spend that much money on a product you sure expect it to work right out of the box. I am dreading having to send in the whole unit for repair after I spent 2 hours wiring the (Contact US Regarding This Word) thing in.

Had the same thing happen to me with the 330C. I had a bad Module. Call Lowrance Mon a.m. They will send you out another one. My experience with there customer service department was as very good one. They had me up and running in a day and a half with a new module.

Good luck and let us know how it turns out. You can reach Lowrance Support @ 1-800-324-1356

Bob - you are correct....last night I was going through all my manuals again and happened to stumble across a bright red sheet that I must have mixed up with some other manuals. Of course, it said that that you need to power the NMEA2000 or your GPS module will not work at all. It then told me it will display a message "GPS Module Not Responding" when first turned on which is exactly what happened. I am going to try to finish wiring in the GPS power today, but I am almost positive that is my problem. Oh well, although I feel like I should take my foot out of my mouth for getting upset yesterday, I am sure glad I don't have to send the whole thing back. Thanks guys for the input, I'll let you know how it turns out.

Glad you were able to figure it out. When I read through the whole manual-lots to read- I was confused as well to which wire went where for whatever reason. I did see that the GPS module had to be powered in order to work.

Got it all connected and works like a charm........good luck.

Paul- sorry to hear about your luck! But like you said, Lowrance does have great customer service and got you going few days after. Still though stinks to be down a bad piece of equipment fresh out of the box.

One more thing I forgot. Make sure you hook it with the main power leads of the GPS unit or with a switch. The module does draw a little power all the time otherwise

Finished installing the 332c this afternoon and it works like a dream! I also took your advice bob and hooked it up with the main power leads. That way when I turn off my master power switch, everything is shut down. I think it is going to be a great graph. I was out on Fish Lake in Maple Grove this afternoon and everything seemed to be working properly. The color display is awesome! The only other thing I needed this afternoon was a shovel to clean off the bottom of my boat during the numerous snow showers. Man, those mid-70's we had a few weeks ago seem like a distant memory compared to our recent weather. The water temp has dropped almost 6 degrees in 2 weeks!

What do you mean you connected the GPS module to the main power leads? I hooked mine right to the battery.....was this a no-no?? confused.gif

I was reading from above that the unit will draw off the battery all the time. IS that true even when it is JUST sitting in the garage??

I have a switch on my control panel (fuse box) that is for accessory, but doesn't have anything on it yet. Do I need to connect the LMS 332c unit and GPS module to this switch to BETTERmy situation??

OR

Will I get by the way I have my whole set up?

I don't want to get out on the lake (after not being on the lake for a week) and find that my battery is dead because the gps module sucked up my battery.

    • Sounds pretty sweet, alright. I will check them out, thanks.
    • If you really want to treat your wife (and yourself) with a remote operated trolling motor, the Minn Kota Ulterra is about easy as it gets.  Auto stow and deploy is pretty awesome.  You just have to turn the motor on when you go out and that the last time you have to touch it.   24V 80lb.  60 inch shaft is probably the right length for your boat.  They ain’t cheap - about $3k - but neither one of you would have to leave your seat to use it all day.
    • Wanderer, thanks for your reply. I do intend for it to be 24 volt, with a thrust of 70-80. Spot lock is a must (my wife is looking forward to not being the anchor person any more).  With my old boat we did quite a lot of pulling shad raps and hot n tots, using the trolling motor. Unlikely that we will fish in whitecaps, did plenty of that when I was younger. I also need a wireless remote, not going back to a foot pedal. We do a fair amount of bobber fishing. I don't think I will bother with a depth finder on the trolling motor. I am leaning toward moving my Garmin depth finder from my old boat to the new one, just because I am so used to it and it works well for me. I am 70 years old and kinda set in my ways...
    • Dang, new content and now answers.   First, congrats on the new boat!   My recommendation is to get the most thrust you can in 24V, assuming a boat that size isn’t running 36V.  80 might be tops?  I’m partial to MinnKota.     How do you plan to use the trolling motor is an important question too.     All weather or just nice weather?   Casting a lot or bait dragging?   Bobber or panfish fishing?   Spot lock?  Networked with depth finders?  What brand of depth finders?
    • We have bought a new boat, which we will be picking up this spring. It is an Alumacraft Competitor 165 sport with a 90 horse Yamaha motor. I will be buying and installing a trolling motor,  wondering if I can get some recommendations on what pound thrust I will want for this boat?  Also, I will be selling my old boat, is there a good way to determine the value on an older boat ( mid-80's with a 75 horse 2-stroke  Mariner motor)  I will appreciate any help with these questions.
    • Sketti...  not out of a jar either!
    • Lol yeah I watched that
