  1. I got a very good look at it through the scope on the .22. It was very dark brown (almost black, but not) with a very faint secondary color, almost a deep red cast or hue to it and it had rounded ears. I have only watched pine martins at the zoo or on video and I am pretty sure it wasn't one. We buried a large male mink a couple of years ago (even the old-timers who watched me bury it said it was a big mink), it washed up on shore a few days after ice out and it was the biggest mink I had seen and this guy was considerably larger. ...and thank you to everybody responding and helping with my possible sighting of a fisher. It's cool to hear about other sightings and interactions with fishers. The weasel family is very interesting if you ask me.
  2. 12 west of wadena...about the same kind of territory. The forest does connect from east of miltona (around lake irene) and then on the north side of miltona, even if there is hwy 29 to cross the forest basically connects from there to the far north west end of lake miltona. I am still reading up on minnesota specific fisher sitings and conditions. It might be a combo planter of a younger fisher moving, fishers in minnesota have been know to not require a pine forest and the dense type of conditions that our summer have created. Could be a young guy moving around.
  3. I saw this post about fishers and was hoping to ask a question to those whom might be a bit more familiar with them. I could swear I saw a fisher 11-12 miles north of Alexandria, could it be possible? No picture, we were hunting squirrel. No doubt in the weasel family. It had dark brown fur, first spotted it two feet up the trunk of a tree, it came down to the ground, romped around a bit, up the tree 2 or 3 feet and back down, ( had to let my buddy know so I finally made a sound), turned to look at me and took off into the dense underbrush, over a dead log and gone. The only other option I can think of is a big mink (seemed like a huge mink if it was one). It was longer than a man's arm and bigger around than a good sized forearm, a bushy tail that made up about 1/3 of it's entire length. Negatives to it being a fisher. Mink can climb trees. It was a fairly dense forest(ok) with very few pine trees (not so good). It really wasn't a continuous forest. Location was less than a mile from lake (mink fairly common in area).
  4. Got a 43" at 9:05am Sat. morning. Hit a smallish slopmaster orange, yellow and black, in 6 1/2 ft in the cabbage.
  5. Someone similar to my breakdown. Rod in left, real right. Cast always left. Write right, Bat left, throw a baseball right (can also throw left with extra warm-up) , but throw a football left. Shoot both. kick left. Bowl right. Hockey left. Golf left. Cool and interesting topic. Get to see how "handed" preferences end up for different people.
  6. When reading the title I thought that you could ask any really old dude to check his pants for and old Johnson....but then I realized you were asking a different type question....
  7. I agree. Since we have gone to freezing fish that are covered in water with no air in the bag we have seen an improvement in quality. From what I understand, the key is to not have any air touching any part of the fish. Air is what "freezer burns" meat. When we thaw the fish they are almost like new. The only way fish are better is when they have never been frozen. When keeping fish and not freezing them, we keeping them covered in cold water, and adding a pinch of salt helps keep the water cold and will even out any taste differences that might exist.
  8. There is at least one good thing about freshwater drum and that is that they are one of the only fish that will eat zebra mussels. When I fished on the snake river (by pine city) I would always release them since the riverway is contected to the St. Croix. So if you are on a body of water that is possibly contected to waters where zebra mussels are or could be, always release them. Freshwater Biology Volume 47 Issue 10 Page 1908-1918, October 2002 To cite this article: Daniel D. Magoulick, Lindsey C. Lewis (2002) Predation on exotic zebra mussels by native fishes: effects on predator and prey 2. Zebra mussels were the primary prey eaten by 52.9% of blue catfish, Ictalurus furcatus; 48.2% of freshwater drum, Aplodinotus grunniens; http://www.blackwell-synergy.com/doi/abs...journalCode=fwb
  9. We have the same issue on our canopy. One thing that works is stuffing panty-hose with moth balls and hanging one in each corner of the canopy. It doesn't smell all that great for the first week or two but it seems to work well.

  12. I hope that this issue doesn't grow into a ban on guns. Some people forget a couple of things in regards to this topic, One of the reasons the Germans had such a hard time coming up with a plan to attack the USA (if they had defeated the Brits and then been able to move on) was that they couldn't find away to combat the amount of guns they would face when going from house to house in the USA. And as said above it usually isn't the legal and responsible gun owner that is causing the issue, it's the illegal ownership by criminals that law enforcement should be targeting. I wish more people would apply this quote, "An attitude of "this doen't affect me...right now", will trickle down and affect your offspring. Will you be happy your children's children will be ruled by a dictator or a King. I don't think so. This is a gov't "run by the people, for the people" when they consider the constitution when laws that are passed that infringe on our rights when it comes the the 4th amendment. Amendment IV The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized. Too bad too many people take the "it doesn't affect me" attitude when it comes to protecting everyone's right to privacy and probable cause.
  13. Quote: JBon, there is something like that, a button controlled rod/reel that "shoots" the lure out. Darn, I wish I could remember where I saw it, but my Grandson was talking about. If you ask around, I know you will find it. Maybe at Gander? Thanks for the idea, I will look around and see if I can track something down. I just got back from the lake (working on docs and stuff for our association for doc-in next weekend) so I just got a chance to respond. If anyone else has heard of a type of mechanical fire and retrieve rod and reel let me know.
  14. My brother is a dwarf. For him the issue is length, reach and flexiablity. His handicap makes it difficult to cast any longer distances or cast over a longer period of time. His type of dwarfism limits his fingers ability to be flexable. He is OK while fishing for 'eyes because he will use a 9ft rod and we can slow troll rigs. But his hooks sets and fighting can get weary. I would love to be able to create a rod and real that are push button controlled, so he could go bass fishing with me. I am thinking the set-up would have a button he could push that would be able to "fire" the lure out and then another button he could push that would retrieve the lure, say and different speeds (slow, med, fast). It would have to be a very mechanical rod and reel and pretty expensive if it were to be made.
  15. Hi, I am wondering if anyone knows what the rules and regs. are for adding cribs (natural-brush piles or non-natural-weighted plastic tubes) to a lake. Do you need a permit? Obviously a person can't construct a 4000lb, 25ft high crib and drop it in 22ft of water. Any info or experience people have would be appreciated. Thank you,
