mjk
Looking for feedback from owners. Going to buy my first locator - I primarily chase pike all winter, but would like to get back into some limited jigging - especially after the season closes.Given that it won't be used all that often, I want to keep the cost down. If I choose to upgrade in a few years, it can always be sold. The one concern I have is display size. Any concerns there? Thanks.
simey1
mjk,I just bought an elite-4. I'm not sure if you have the gps model or not. Mine has the gps with that. I plan to use mine on my boat and on my snowmobile or 4 wheeler in the the winter. I can save all my waypoints in summer and then have them in the winter. CaptainMusky
A buddy has an elite 4 with GPS and its a great unit. He mounts it to his sled or ATV and uses it on a kayak in the summer. Its a nice compact unit and one that doesnt require the multiple cables like the larger hds units.Screen size is small, but it really depends what you want to use it for. It was more than adequate for what we were doing. If you plan on using it in the boat it would work perfectly fine if you have a smaller boat or sit near it. I could potentially see some issues if you dont have it located near where you are fishing from due to the smaller size, but it worked awesome for us. Very simple to use and allowed map chips. zymguy
on the subject of map chips for this unit, Fishing Hotspots® Pro, Navionics® Gold and Premium what is the consensus on the options?
CaptainMusky
Dont forget the new line of Lowrance chips. If comparing only the two you mentioned I would lean toward Navionics, but the Lowrance chips use LakeMaster data and will work in there. mjk
Want to throw in another possibility:Marcum VX1 pro vs the Lowrance. Prices are pretty much in the same ballpark. As I stated, I am looking for something in a specific price point, as it will see limited use. Something to cut my teeth on for a few winters, then re-assess.....I assume from a learning curve perspective, the Lowrance will be easier to use. I have to believe, though, that a Flasher can't be that difficult to conceptualize, if you put in the time....Thanks.
