For our final day of fishing on our stay at Flag Island Resort we went back into the Canadian side of LOTW to target giant Crappies through the ice. We caught good numbers of Crappies along with some real Slabs, throw in a 26" Walleye and Day 3 did not disappoint! It was tough to leave Flag Island but I will be back up there again soon fishing off the grid and taking in the beautiful sights and sounds.

On Saturday I drove into Wisconsin to meet up with my buddy Matt and his Dad to target some Crappies. The weather was perfect and allowed us to stay mobile & hole hop around all day to catch fish. We found a good average size (10-12") and some larger fish mixed in. I started the day fishing a 4mm tungsten jig with big plastics but the fish seemed to shy away so I downsized to the smaller profile (3.8mm) tungsten fly and almost every fish I marked turned into a biter. I always have a Wisconsin fishing license so I'm hoping to check out a few new lakes this winter across the border.

Last week I dropped the kayak in a Minnesota Metro lake to target some shallow Crappies as they prepare for the Spawn. It took me a little while to find them but once I did, it was one on every pass. The Bass were thick in the shallows as well and I had an unexpected visit from a Toad that put a bend in the Ultralight!

Last Thursday I got out in the Metro for a few hours with a buddy. We went out in the afternoon about 2 hours before Sunset and stayed for a few hours after it got dark. With the Sun up we punched a lot of holes, camera'd them and were able to find some thick weeds holding some good sized Sunfish. We fished those for a little bit and then pulled our shacks out a mile to a major piece of lake structure only to find that it was holding ZERO fish. On the way back to our launch point we stopped to check out a deep hole and found the larger Crappies to be roaming the edges suspended in the upper half of the water column. Big tungsten jigs with large plastics seemed to trigger their interest and get them to bite.

Today my brother Josh and I hit up Solberg Lake in northern Wisconsin. Little backstory -- I had taken Josh ice fishing probably 4-5 times this winter and we hadn't had much success together. I think it was a combination of the wrong timing, bad conditions, and just plain bad luck. There's a reason they call it fishing and not catching. Today was a different story and I was finally able to get Josh on a decent school of bluegills and crappies. If you can't tell, we were both pretty excited when Josh finally iced his first fish! We only fished for about an hour and a half and caught some pretty nice slabs. Didn't seem to matter too much what we used this day, but I caught all my fish on a small tungsten jig with a pink plastic. Hoping to get on the ice at least a couple more times this winter. Please like, comment, and subscribe! Stay tuned for more and check out my other videos.

Hello everyone! It has been a great year of fishing so far and many beautiful fish are being caught everyday. In Minnesota working rock reefs and points in the morning and evening hours and then moving to deeper areas off of structure during mid day has been best. Gravel bars, humps and deep mud areas have all been producing fish as well. The Best depth has been 13-20 feet in the mornings and evenings and 20-30 during mid day. The best tactic has been using a jigging rod with a lindy flyer, buckshot, rippin rap, charmer or flutter spoon tipped with a minnow head or tail. Live minnows under a bobber have worked as well. Over on the Canadian side the Crappie bite has been good in all north and east spots. A tungsten jig with a plastic and waxy has been the best combo. 30 feet for the crappies and 25 or deeper for the walleyes has been the best. For the walleyes a weasel, lindy flyer or charmer has been the best. There is a lot of hard packed snow on the lake and it is suggested to have scrapers for snowmobiles, many snowmobiles were overheating last week. Over night we got a few inches of snow which should help the situation. We'd love to see you soon! Until next week, good luck fishing! Had a couple hours to fish for an afternoon and ended up finding a little patch of ice below a dam that was holding lots of nice crappie. Most of the time I couldn't even mark my jig on my flasher. I ended up catching all of them on a medium sized tungsten jig with a small pink plastic. Good day for catch and release!

I am looking for some ideas and new lakes to explore this winter. Not looking for your hot spot and will do my own research on lakefinder. What I am hoping for is to narrow down my search based on personal experiences from members here. If you prefer to send by PM rather than post, that's fine. I live in Rochester and our immediate options are walk-on only reservoirs. I have a heavier portable and am primarily setup for ATV type portability. It doesn't look like we are going to have stable ice in the South anytime soon, and it doesn't look like my usual treks to URL and Devils Lake are in the cards this year. So, what I am looking for are: 1) Lakes within 2 hours driving from Rochester. Thinking central MN. 2) ATV access is a must 3) I prefer less populated. Only accessible by ATV would be ideal. 4) Likely taking a teen who has never fished (but desperately wants to learn) with me. Species and size are not as important as numbers, but I don't want to spend all day chasing dinks. 5) Lodging close by. Don't need a resort or excess amenities but something close by if we fish late and/or decide to make it an overnighter. 6) I have looked at Waubay area. It's a bit further than I am thinking but not ruling it out either. Haven't found a ton of info on it related to my "wants" above. Thanks for reading and please let me know know if anything comes to mind. Would also love to hear from any of you with similar interests that would like to explore together. Thanks in Advance!

The Fall has arrived folks and the bite has started to picked up a lot over the last couple of weeks. With water temps dropping the Crappie and Yellow Bass have started to make there way to there early ice locations. Over the next couple of months we will be working on locating these early ice locations. This is much easier to do in a boat and you will cover twice the water. A few things we will be looking for is standing weeds and different kinds of transitions with high spots. Finding deeper water near these areas will be key on Clear Lake.
