pikehunter
First of all, it's a sad commentary on the state of the weather that I've put this much thought into this, but I'm curious as to other folks' opinions. Every year I pray for little or no snow before the formation of 4-6 inches on ice because, as we all know, snow acts as an insulator and hampers ice development. That said, recently I've heard a couple weathermen mention the fact that the reason temps are so mild is partially because we have no snow cover to act as a coolant to the atmosphere. So it sounds like a catch-22 or sorts. My question is this: Do you think that it's kind of a horse-apiece? Maybe we gain as much ice because of cooler temperatures as we lose due to the insulation factor? Any opinions ice and weather freaks???
