  1. Another area to consider would be the refuge area. I had some of the best late ice fishing there last season. That would not allow you to use any motorized vehicles however. Also, the area I was fishing was a mile walk from the ranger station. It was worth it when I caught my limit of crappies, walleyes, and perch. I was the only one fishing the area. If you are interested in directions, I can e-mail you where to find them.
  2. These are a few of many older photos from last year during early ice. The gill bite was off the richter there last year. It has not been nearly as good there this year. However, I am waiting for late ice and I have a feeling that the bite will turn on heavy again this year once spring starts getting closer.
  3. As most of you have probably heard, the bite on whitewood is preatty good. My dad was out there yesterday and caught fifteen in a couple hours with a few jumbos mixed in. He accessed off the east side and was about 150 yards out into the middle.
  4. Was in the pierre area this weekend with some success. Caught 10 walleyes in the Farm Island area, two of them being better than five pounds (both released). Fishing was fair and we were able to bring home six fish. Mostly a mourning thing for us, but did see others catching sporatic fish all day. We fished from 8:30 to 1:00. For you pike enthusiasts, I was talking to a few local fisherman at the bait shop who had a pair of twenty plus pound pike from the bays of Oahe by Pierre. They had a lot of activity and said that ice out will be in a couple weeks probably.
  5. Was thinking about going to Pierre this weekend to visit family and was thinking about taking the boat with me. Where might be a few good places to start tossing a jig. I am familiar with the area, but have never fished it this early in the year.
  6. My buddies were back up at ft. thompson again last thursday and friday. The did real well both days, but I think they were probably the minority. They have a real productive general area where they catch all their fish. I can tell ya one thing, it is not more than a three minute boat ride from the ramp. Jig and a minnow is what they were catching their fish on. Crow creek has not been real productive, so if you aren't cathcing any fish there, don't be afraid to move around. Stay in the 12 to 15' foot depth range. Just to get you guyz a little excited here is a link to some of the excitement that may await you. "PLEASE DO NOT POST DEAD FISH PICS" Hopefully this works. It is the first time I have posted a pic.
  7. This report is updated preatty consistently. South Dakota Outdoors My buddy has gone up to the polluck area and they caught about 25 fish in two days that anywhere from 16 to 25". (No Unauthorized Links Please Refer To Forum Policy)
  8. I saw one person ice fishing in the stilling basin in the three times I have been up there and yes the other ramp is frozen in.
  9. The only boat ramp that we used was the one right at the big bend dam. No problems unloading and loading except when I fell on the ice on the ramp. If your going up there, I would think about using a jig and minnow. Pink and orange jigs were working for us. You have to move a lot to locate the fish, but when you find them, they are stacked on top of each other.
  10. Me and my buddy were up at fort thompson the past two days and limited out both days. Plenty of fish to be had. The water is open from the big bend dam up to kiowa flats for sure, thats all the further we went. On the weekends, the water freezes up more because they do not run the water. The time to be there is during a weekday when they run the water. We caught all our fish in the mourning and evening and the fish are really healthy, 15 to 21 inches and built like footballs.
  11. Went to South Buffalo yesterday and did not have any luck. I mostly fished around the island strait out from boat ramp and did not see one bluegill on the camera. I also fished all around the submerged island off the bigger point, still did not mark a fish. At 1:00, I left for Waubay and got skunked there too. Worst day I have ever had on waubay in three years.
  12. My dad fished indian bay on Sunday and caught about ten bluegills a few bass and a occasional northern. He really had to sort through the bluegills to catch the 8-inchers. As far as bitter goes, I have heard that it has not been doing much. I fished it one time and caught a limit of walleyes and five perch on the north end by that farm strait out from the shelterbelt on the other side of the heave in about twelve feet of water. I only caught them on tip-ups. That was about a month ago. It was only a mourning thing too. They only bit from 8:00-9:00. They were nice fish in the 2.5-3# range. It might be a good place to start.
  13. I did the exact same thing as you did last year. I had just got done catching a limit of perch on waubay and sat down in the same hole as you were on up on the north side. If you look on the lake map you can see where the hole is. I caught a bunch of perch just like you did and only caught one crappie that was about ten inches.
  14. I'm going to fish it tomorrow for sure. I'm going after the gills. I talked to the guy at sportsman's cove and he said that there are northern biting on the west side of south bufallo. I will probably start on the west side in the bays looking for the good weed beds and then move deeper if I need to. I'll post anything I find as soon as I can.
  15. I was thinking about fishing this lake this winter, but I have never fished it before. Any information on the lake would be greatly appreciated.
