  1. My thoughts exactly. I strongly considered getting this just to save weight. But when I factored in the cost of everything I ruled it out. And I needed everything. $300+ to do this setup and not really that dependable over the years (motor burn out, quality of drill plate). I just sold my 40lb jiffy for the new 27lb clam gas auger. 14lbs for drill plate setup versus 27lb gas auger. I think I can handle that. Selling the jiffy and buying the Clam came to net $200 out of pocket. I think I made the right choice.
  2. Current auction as of today. For the Clam drill plate only. No auger. Current bid $182.49! I realize they have been popular and many, many store are out. This ad claims Clam will be out-of-production of these for the season. Supply and demand I guess. No way I'd pay that though. Especially knowing it retails for $69.99.
  3. I'm considering it to replace the old Jiffy. Has anyone purchased one or seen it in action? Thoughts??
  4. I couldn't agree more. I typically store my hub, chairs, heater, etc in an otter sled. When I get on the ice, I drill holes, pop the hub, and then unload everything from the sled into the house. Now I'm thinking I need to customize the sled; not necessarily the house. The sled setup would just get pulled inside the house and become part of the furniture essentially. I guess it's similar to the flip over shelters in concept.
  5. I am completely hooked as well. You really can't miss one episode. Can't remember how it was advertised, but I thought the show runs 16 episodes 16 weeks in a row. Two down and this twisted show has this guy on edge.
  6. The buddy heaters are great only because of its safety features. BUT in my opinion the sunflower is more reliable and can be used just as safely with common sense. You'll never need it on "HIGH" and you shouldn't ever fall asleep with either one running in an ice house. I have used both and I have chosen to stick with the sunflower. When comparing the two I find the sunflower takes up less space and its great for cooking a meal on those long outings. I'll run the sunflower on my "super low" setting all day and the house temp is perfect.
  7. I have a Model 30 that runs the EXACT same way. I can get it to run on its side with spark plug down ONLY after it is completely warmed up and I find that I have to leave it on half choke as well. No chance of it running on its side cold. I've decided that these 3hp Jiffy's are simple quirky; everyone learns how to keep theirs running in different "creative" ways.
