  1. Here is a pic of my bird Very expensive bird for all the traveling I did to get one on my homestead.
  2. Congrats to all who harvested a bird. Sounds like powerstroke had an amazing hunt. I apologize for the lack of the updates. Work and the kids have me crazy busy in the spring. My Nebraska trip was disappointing for me. I had a couple of Toms come within 60 yards but that was it. We have hunted the Chadron Pine Ridge District for the 8 last years except the first year after the fire. Things have definitely have change since the fire, its hard to run and gun with the lack of cover now. My cousin ended with 2 and my brother got 1 too. We still had a great time, the bird numbers are increasing and the hens had a lot of eggs in their nest. I went to Wisconsin for on the last weekend in April, I hunted Saturday morning, I had a Tom & hen about 400 yards away but, she headed the other way with him. So the next morning, we set up where the Tom was strutting the day before. The plan was the right, 5:55 am a Tom came in about 30 yards and I missed. I cant remember the last time I missed a turkey, Boy that was a major disappointment for me. We decided to try another farm got all set up and here comes the farmer spreading manure. We then went to another farm tried some calling, but didn't get a response. We grab some lunch and decided to head back to where I missed the one in the morning. Were walking back on a narrow field, as I came to the crest of the knob I peeked over the and saw 2 Toms and a hen 80 yards own on the other side. We backed up and sat down. We made some calls and immediately got a response. The birds started to work there way towards us. The hens came over first just a yelping a way. Then I got a glimpse of the top of a fan, and then appeared the two toms heads and nothing else. The hen worked her way another 10 yards and cut back into the woods. I was still thinking the Toms would follow her but they never did, they must have cut into the woods just on the other side of the rise. We sat for a while longer with no action and I had to get back home. So tag soup again. I bought an Archery tag for Mn. I have seen the birds mostly in the morning usually there is 2-3 Toms with the hens. I tried a few evening nights with no success. Finally friday the stars must have a lined. I got out around 5:30 and did my first series of yelps and goooobbble. It came from the woods southwest of me. I called again and he gobbled. He appeared 50 yards out and skirted to the north of my decoy. He made his way around me and went down the hill of me to the north. I yelped again this time 2 of them gobbled back at me. For about the next hour, I would call they would gobble, but didn't seem to want to come in. I took a break from calling for a half an hour and ripped off a few yelps and this time they gobbled seemed closer and gobbled again each time getting closer. I finally saw the one coming up the hill and waited until he and the other one was about 8 yards behind my decoy at 10 yards out in front of me. Before I released my arrow. This was my first Tom with my bow and I was excited too. I will post pictures and submission form here in the next couple of days
  3. Hi guys I Will be going to NW Nebraska late April and will be hunting mn in May, probably with my bow. I'm all for letting the young gun pick the name. Good luck Woody! where about are you heading to in Nebraska?
  4. Congrats bluehat and ghost on your birds and good luck to everyone hunting or goin to be soon. I better start doing little shooting with the bow. It will be time soon.
  5. Went down to Iowa monday morning and was feeling pretty good when a bunch of Toms started gobbleing on the roost about 100 yds away. Two toms & a hen slowly worked there way towards me. At about 8am they finally came up to the field where I was in. I had a shot at both of them at 40 yds, but thought I would wait until they went into the field, which was the wrong move. I think for some reason, they didnt like my 2 hen decoy set up and they went the other way. The one started to strut right on the edge of the field. I then looked back at the second one and they both disappeared. I wish I would have just taken the shot. Later on in the afternoon, I had a tom with a dozen hens come within fifty yds. They were working there way towards me and slowly turn around. I didn t try to call them because they were working towards me. Tuesday morning I tryed It again, set up down in the woods thinking they travel some what the same area, but I was wrong they flew and walked into the field. Another group went to the south and west. I walked up to the field edge and noticed they were working a fence. So I tried to head them off. I got up to the fence line, but the birds never got closer than fifty yds. Finally they went on to the neighbors property. I went to two other places and walked around, but didnt see or hear anything. Thursday late afternoon, I drove in all that crappy weather for a few hours of hunting the last day. I figured I would position myself to intercept them on there way back to roost. I did see two hens but that was it. They must of roosted in a different location. That was my first time hunting that piece. I learned alot about the land and how to hunt it. On Monday I did have a guy and his two kids come walking by. I dont think he helped me out any, because they were walking right towards the birds. Im assuming he pushed further away.
  6. Hi Guys, Im a late arrival and Im proud to be on your spur collectors team. I will be hunting Iowa Monday for sure and will see if I can make another day depending on work. I typically go out to Nebraska's Pine Ridge Forest Area for about 5 days, but there was a massive fire back in September. The fire burnt thousand's of acres where we hunted, so I probably won't be goin. I will also be hunt ing in MN last seasons with my bow. Im excited for Iowa, it has treated me pretty good over the last few years. I hunt on public land in the northern part of the state. I will be hunting a piece that was opened out for the first time this year for turkey hunting. The piece is not that big, so I hope nobody will beat me out there. Good Luck to you all.
  7. Im sure its a long shot, but I would be a sub delzz7 eastern.
  8. Congrats to all my fellow teammates. Good job guys. I ended harvesting a jake with my bow, 2nd to the last day of the season. I was hoping for one with a longer beard but time wasn't in my favor.
  9. Are talkin blacktop millings? My buddy did It at his house and it worked great. Snow melts off in the winter nice too. Its hard to get flat, but if you have a roller you should be good.
  10. Your not the only one struggling . I been playing cat and mouse with them too. I know if i would just sat on this funnel, instead of trying to out smart them. I would have had multiple opportunities. I have one of those breeding decoys. It worked the first time I used it, but for some reason never tried it again . I did try it on Monday morning but it fell over in the dark. I had 3 toms fly off the roostat 80 yds. Every time i called they would gobbled but wouldn't come in. Probably would have if the decoy didn't fall over or if i had s hen decoy out. I dont know why I thought late season was going to be easier.
  11. That bird definitely has some awesome spurs well done Wally I'm still trying to get one with my bow. I have had a few encounters, but couldn't get them close enough. I have tried decoys and no decoys. I have got a few gobbles from my calling, but they haven't closed in on me. I dont think I have been over calling either, plus I haven't been Hunting mid to late morning. Most of the toms have been with hens too. I will take any suggestions if you have any.
  12. Good Luck Wally I got permission from another farmer yesterday. So im kind of excited for the next time i get a chance to go out. He says its probably the best spot in the county. We will see. I hope he is right!
  13. I went out yesterday afternoon, I had a hen come by me twice. Both times within 20 yards. I didnt hear or see any Toms. Used no decoys and called real sparingly. I will have to try a differnet spot.
  14. I wouldn't be happy either. It only took 6 months to get mine back. One of the first questions, i asked the taxedermy was how long is their turn around.
