  1. All, Thank-you for the help/information. The wife and I will be up on Vermilion Aug 15-23 for our annual trip. Looking forward to trying these suggestions out. Perhaps if Im lucky, a couple in the pan for a Friday night fish fry.
  2. Excuse my ignorance as I am a musky guy that likes to pickup a few walleyes for the pan from time to time. My question is, should I be using a egg type sinker when fishing lakes like Vermilion? I learned a valuable lesson a few years ago when I tried to use a lindy type weight and lost 3 rigs in the rocks. The other option I thought of was using a Lindy no snag weight. I have young kids so I would prefer the visual effect of the bobber.(I will admit, I also find it benefical) Any advice is greatly appreciated.
  3. Looking for recommendations for a rod/reel setup that will be good with the smaller bucktails as well as the Double Cowgirls. Not looking to break the budget. Thanks for any info. Travis
  4. Not sure how much information I can post. Muskie club in Cedar Rapids is putting together a little tournament on Palo(AKA Pleasant Creek). Eastern Iowa Muskie Alliance. Give me a call with questions. Travis
  5. I had not heard this. Havent been out much this year as I have been concentrating on getting the basement remodeled. I do know there was a floater found by my friend but it was due to handling. Im expecting the bite to be back up shortly. We have had some cooler weather which will make them more active.
  6. Its about quiting time for muskies on Palo(AKA Pleasant Creek) until the Fall. Water temp is at or above 80 and then tend to shutdown. I havent tried a night bite so that might work out better.
  7. All, My parents have a 14' older resort boat that they acquired from my Grandparents when they(My Grandparents) sold their resort. I am wanting to put a transom mount troller on it and wanted to know what the min lb thrust is I should be looking at? I know there is a calculation to determine this, but I have no idea what the weight or weight capcity is on this thing.(Much easier on my 17' Crestliner as I looked at the operator manual)
  8. $50 is a good price, but since I am in Iowa it maybe cheaper to find one here in town Thanks though for the information. I am going to take the boat out Sunday and dink with the settings, and if I still have issues, Ill buy a new one next week. Cant have that thing on the fritz while on the Big V. Travis
  9. Well lone and behold I am not the only one. Got a 01 Fishhawk, and on my back seat, that little POS plastic thing broke.(Do you like my technical terms for that thing)? Looks like I will make a phone call and see what they are going to do about it. Thanks, Travis
  10. Chris, Unfortunately, I do not have anyone in the area that has a X15 so I think the new transducer will probably be my solution. I should add that the depth flashes 0. If I unplug it and plug it back in, it seems to work for a while. Also looses the bottom if I get up and go.(I realize that this is probably caused by the placement of the transducer, and not necessarily a result of the problem). Looks like a 80 dollar purchase to be made before I head to Vermilion. ****, I was hoping to buy some more musky lures!! Thanks, Travis
  11. Hey Chris, One final question regarding these units. What do you run you "Ping" at? I was running mine around 50%. Lowrance guy told me that he runs his near 100, but the ducers will burn out quicker that way. Just curious to know what I ought to set mine to?(The new one that is in the future that is) Thanks, Travis
  12. Well I called Crestliner. Since we have a 01 model the 3+ Warranty is done. However, they are going to check and see what they can do. Ill post once I hear back from them regarding this issue. I did find out that on my year, they are experiencing a problem with the plastic mechanism sticking. Not sure how that differs from what Tumble was seeing on his?
  13. Ladies and Gentlemen, I have a X-15 unit and I have noticed a couple of issues with the sonar portion of my unit. From time to time, it will display a dept of 0, and not show a darn thing as far as fish. I can understand the no fish portion, but I know I have water below me, and have verified it is at least 5' deep. The unit does not "Freeze Up" as I define a "Freeze Up", just doesnt display anything. GPS portion works fine. I upgraded to version 3.1, same thing. Called Lowrance, and the guy told me that he did not know of any issues, as reported in a earlier post I read a couple weeks ago. His suggestion was to buy a new transducer and test it to see if it is the problem. Any other suggestions? Thanks, Travis
  14. Hey Camper.... MR and I went to Clear on Sat. One word for you...BULLHEADS Drifted/Trolled crawlers and leeches over reefs. The Bait store guy told us that since we were in a boat, the bullheads wouldnt be to bad. Well, they were everywhere. I did manage to have walleye on the line but he got off boatside. Billys Reef, Rock piles on North shore were the popular areas. Lindy rigs with crawlers, leeches. I would maybe think of pulling cranks along the north shore unless the bullheads stop biting in Aug. No follows or Musky raised. No little snake northern either. Good time had by both of us, but I think we may head to Spirit in the Fall instead. Travis
  15. Fishing parnter and I are debating on whether to go to Spirit or Clear this weekend... For that matter any other lakes in the area. Primarily fishing for walleye, crappie, and or musky. Any help and some advice on where to go would be greatly appreciated. Travis
