Reel Team Bass on the Le Homme Dieu Chain.
This tournament was held on June 30th and had 40-boats. We finished 6th, cashing a check for $400.00.
I pre-fished 3-days for this tournament and Mike spent two days. After 3 full days of pre-fishing I was worried, as none of the deep-water spots produced any quality fish for me. Mike was able to find a deep spot on Lake Carlos that produced a couple of good fish, one over 3-pounds, drop shotting. I on the other hand only had one shallow area in Lake Victoria that was holding some ok fish. It was a deep break with wood and pads on it. It’s where we decided to start the day.
We were boat six out in the morning and had no problem getting to our starting spot first. We had this spot pretty much to ourselves most of the morning. After fishing 100-yards of wood and pads in the first 45-minutes we had our 8-fish limit. The pressure was OFF… now all we needed was a second kicker fish, as we already had one over 3-pounds.
All of the fish that morning came on a blue/black Bitsy Flip Jig (1/2-ounce) with a blue/black Rage Craw trailer or a black senko.
We then moved back into Lake Geneva and fished some deep weedlines. There we were able to upgrade two more fish. As the day wore on the fishing got tougher. We never did find that second kicker fish.
I’m still surprised that the deep-water weedline bite has not started. Normally by this time of year the deep weedline bite is a solid option and usually produces most of the winning bags of fish. It just has not happened this year for us…yet.
Minnewaska is our next Reel Team Bass Location.
