Plano, IL (February 18, 2014) – A great angler never stops coming up with clever ways of catching fish. He or she also doesn’t hoard the knowledge of bettering the bite, either, but rather teaches it to others who also love to land lunkers.
That said, you’ve just been introduced to first-class bass-fishing act John Murray; the latest in the fishing world’s elite anglers to don the title of Frabill and Plano prostaff.
Murray, 48, brings the two leading brands 27 years of fulltime tournament fishing experience. Fresh out of college in 1985, Murray’s casting-career started while fishing local events near his Arizona homestead. (That’s right; fishing has been his one and only “real” job.)
It didn’t take long for Murray to realize he had what it takes to fish amongst the best in bass fishing. For years, Murray blanketed regional western events, and has been competing in national fishing events throughout the United States for over a decade. Today, he stands as one of the rare-breeds who fish both the Bassmaster Elite and FLW tours.
While logging hundreds of thousands of miles with bass boat in tow, Murray stops along the way and teaches both bass- and crappie-fishing techniques at seminars across the country. Murray’s educational trail also includes a 15-year stint teaching fishing classes at a community college.
“My relationship with Plano and Frabill is a natural fit,” affirms Murray. “My very first tackle box, purchased more than 30 years ago, was a Plano, and today my tackle’s organized to a tee in their totes. And you can bet Frabill outerwear will be covering my back [literally] when the weather turns ugly on the water.
“And I want nothing more than to work with companies whose employees know fishing inside and out, and both Plano and Frabill fit this description perfectly.”
Over his career, Murray’s earned over 1.8-million dollars, and has qualified for the prestigious Bassmaster Classic six times and is a two-time US Open Champion. But Murray states his biggest “win” in life is that he gets to travel with his family throughout the year, which includes his wife, Amy, and 4-year-old son, T.J.
Murray’s approach as a combined touring pro and educator will serve Plano and Frabill as these trusted brands continue to grow in bass fishing.
