While on vacation in Marco Island, FL we went back down to the Beach to do some more Surf Fishing. At the end of our last trip we found a group of rocks that seemed to be holding a lot of different species including Sheepshead and Pompano. We decided to start our day near these rocks this time and they didn't disappoint. We were using 1/4oz and 1/2oz egg sinkers with circle hooks and shrimp to catch all of our fish.

In Part 2 of our Marco Island Vacation series we head out for a half day on the Gulf of Mexico with Captain Bubby Hail of Florida's Finest Fishing. We spend the first half of our day inshore fishing for Sheepshead. When that bite slows down we head to a wreck a few miles out and target Spanish Mackerel with hopes of catching a Kingfish!

We recently took a break from the snow and cold in Minnesota and traveled down to Marco Island, FL for a week long vacation. On the first morning my Father-in-law and I decided to do some surf fishing from South Marco Beach. This is something that I haven't done previously so we didn't know what to expect. We found that the bite wasn't fast and furious but it didn't take long for us to start catching various Saltwater species including my first ever Pompano!

The Peacock Bass has been on my fishing bucket list since I first saw a picture of one when I was in elementary school. I don't think I'll make it to the Amazon anytime soon so when our Florida vacation was booked I made it a point to get to SE Florida and chase these beautiful specimens! For our adventure we went out near Miami, FL with local guide Captain Scott Rose. He shared a lot of information about this unique fishery and put us on both numbers and quality fish. Our Biggest 5 weighed in at 20.5lbs! This trip was something I won't soon forget.
