  1. I would really like to thank both of you for your willingness to help out. Harvey I am going to look into the details of that outing and hopefully the boy and I can make it up for that one. Hope you back gets better soon. Thatcatguy I will take you up on the offer. I will shoot you an email from work on monday and see what your upcoming plans are. Both my son and I are very excited to fish with someone that knows what he is doing. Well he and I are off to the Croix for some walleye action. I will talk to you soon and thanks again to both of you!!!!
  2. Hey guys I have been using this site for years. I am an avid walleye fisherman but in the last two years my son and I have tried several times to do a little catfishing. The problem is I really haven't had much luck and being that he is 11yrs old he is getting tired of getting skunked. I thought walleye's were hard to catch. Anyways I was wondering if anyone out there would let me tag along with them one night to pick up a few pointers. I have tried several spots and still can't seem to figure it out. I work early during the week so probably would have to be on a weekend. This may be kind of a weird post but about two years ago I met a guy that was posting on this site looking to fish in someone's boat for walleye, I invited him along and today he is one of my best friends. Thanks!!
  3. Hey guys just wondering if someone can help me out. I have a 1700 Lund Fisherman and my livewell pump has gone out. This is the first time and I am not the handiest when it comes to fixing things but at the same time I would like to figure some of this stuff out. Can anyone explain to me how to replace the pump? Any assistance would be appreciated.
  4. Hey guys it's obviously a little early to start talking about next years fishing but I'm going to anyway. I see that the schedule for the FLW 2008 is out and I am going to be fishing in a couple of these events. In the past I have fished in the League series but want to try a few events with some of the big boys. I am going to be fishing as a co-angler and in the past when fishing the League series I would always bring my boat and do some pre-fishing. Being that the FLW stops in places outside of Mn I don't think that I will be towing the boat to some of these events but was wondering how to get hooked up with a boater and do some pre-fishing. I have fished in many tournaments as a boater and a co-angler, and always enjoyed having someone fish with me when pre-fishing. Just wondering if anyone out there will be fishing the FLW, is from MN, and may be looking for someone to pre-fish as well as share cost. Better yet if someone out there is from the cities (or nearby) and would like to travel together (save on gas, bait, and lodging) please send me an email. Thanks and enjoy the remainder of this year, and hold tight for next!! jason.briscoe@thrivent.com
  5. Shackbash- I was reading your first post on here and you talk about "cut bait". You said middle body hunk with head going on last. Does that mean that you cut the suckers head off, then cut a piece from the body, hook the body piece onto your hook, and then hook the head on as well? Remember before you read this and say "What a dumba$$" I am very new to this kind of fishing. Thanks
  6. Shackbash- We have tried a few different areas. We have tried under 35w/Blackdog, and over by Ft. Snelling. We have tried a few different areas along these banks. Any suggestions? From the looks of the pictures you guys obviously know what your doing.
  7. I guess I should of been more specific about fishing two lines. Just to clarify I fish two lines when I am on the Miss down in pool 4. Thanks for the responses.
  8. Hey guys my buddy and I have a dumb question to ask....If fishing from shore on either the MN or the Miss is it legal to fish with two poles? I know fishing from the boat it's ok but wondering if that changes once on dry land. Also last night got out and had three runs but nothing home. I am new to this cat thing and am wondering where do you hook your bait and when they pick it up how long do you let them take it. It seemed on two of them that they picked it up, played with it for awhile but never really went anywhere with it. My drag on two of them click a couple of times and that was it.....nobody home. Once again I will throw out the invite for friday. My son and I are planning on heading out maybe somewhere arouch Fort Snelling if anyone is going to be out and wants to show me some pointers that would be great. Thanks
  9. Hey guys I appreciate all the tips and advice from this site. My son and I will be heading out this Friday night (with some new rigs) and would love to fish with a more experience cat hunter. Let me know if anyone out there wants to meet up for a night of fishing!
  10. Well thanks for all the advice guys, I sure do appreciate it. Last night I bought a new rig for chasin cats and I can't wait to try it out. I am hopeing to get out tonight or tomorrow but if not I am all set for Friday night. I think my son and I will try a new area down on the Minnesota. I am thinking of down off of 35w but a little nervous after reading the news article about the "extra curricular" going on down there. If any of you will be out I would love to fish with a more experienced cat hunter. Let me know and we can meet up!
  11. Alright so your saying to use large suckers? Any help as to where to catch some bullheads down here in Burnsville? I think I read that the bullheads must be smaller than 7 inches. Is that correct?
  12. We have been using medium suckers. Have you guys found that hooking these baits a certain way works better than others? We have had quite a few taken without any runs. Also wondering about frozen baits and bullheads. Where can you buy these? Or do most of you catch your own bait?
  13. Heys guys my 10yr son and I have really enjoyed exploring the banks of the Mississippi and the Minnesota in search of some kitties. I am an avid walleye fisherman with all the equipment needed there but as you can guess probably don't have the correct equip. for cats. However that's not the true problem, the real problem is finding an area that holds fish larger than 2lbs. We have tried several of areas and maybe we just are not going about it correctly, but without giving away your "hoenyhole" can someone please direct me in the right direction to have a chance at a little larger kittie. I know that it's fishing and that means trial and error, but one of these nights I would like to look like a hero and get my kid hooked up with a big'in. Thanks for the help!
  14. Hey guys. I have been a long time user of this HSOforum but have not posted in years. I am a long time avid walleye fisherman, but recently my 10yr. old son and I have been shore fishing the rivers. Typically it's more enjoyable for him than joining dad on an all day adventure pulling cranks. I have gathered some great info from this site and him and I have enjoyed targeting catfish but obviously don't have it down to a science. I would just like to know some general areas that we could spend a night fishing from shore and have a shot at some decent cats. We have tried some different areas along the banks but so far this summer our biggest fish is about a 5lb carp, and most the time it's small pesky sheeps. I don't expect anyone to give away their "honeyhole" but if you could lead me in the right direction we both would appreciate it very much! Being a walleye fisherman I respect people's fishing areas. Thanks again. Great forum
