  1. Been talking to a number of lumber yards around here and they all seem to sell doors from Bayer Built in Belgrade MN. I think the doors are made by Masonite and Bayer Built just buys the bare door and does the rest of the work to it. Any thoughts on this? My wife has one picked out that she really likes now and its a fiberglass that we would stain. Thanks
  2. We ended up buying a larson storm door that is 36" and feel the extra work will be appreciated in the future. Now to find an entry door, I think we will be looking at fiberglass as the wife wants the wood look. Thanks for the replies.
  3. I dont think every electrical device draws power if its plugged in. A toaster? I doubt that would draw power if not in use. Tell us what the breakdown of your bill is. Since we moved to the country ours went up a lot from living in town and now we heat our water with propane. When looking at our bill the electrical usage is a small portion of the bill. Our bill runs around 110 and of that I think the electricity is maybe 40 of that. The rest is just to have service, a yard light and other stuff. I would look at a water heater, do you have a well that may have a leak someplace and be running a lot? Hope that helps
  4. I havent done much framing but I do have a pretty good understanding of what needs to be done. We really need a new storm door and thought it sure would be nice to have a bigger door. Any comments on storm doors? We picked out a nice looking larson storm door and will go with that if they are good.
  5. Looking to replace my 32 inch entry door with a 36 inch. How much work is there in making the wider entry? I am also looking at which brand of door to get. Fiberglass or steel? We were in home depot and menards yesterday and they offered feather river and mastercraft doors. Any comments on these would be appreciated.
  6. Well I finally found it. I was lucky it worked periodically and could trace the noise and vibration it made. It was to the right of the steering column and was attached to a clip that was on the frame in the dash. It was working sometimes and would stick on when I used the turn signals so I am hoping that was the problem, been working for 2 days now.
  7. My opinion is I am comparing something that works and something that doesnt work. I had a SD400 about 3 or 4 years ago and it worked great, lost my dog and didnt know when I was going to get another one so I sold it. After buying one, then exchanging it and calling sportdog to have them send a transmitter for that one and it still doesnt work I am not impressed. Then after reading 5 other posts of identical experiences that sums it up for me. Scott
  8. I ended up exchanging it for the dogtra 2500. More money than I wanted to spend but am happy with it. I haven't checked the real long distance range but I know it works 300 yards for sure and that is more than I need anyways. I really like the locate button on it, real nice for finding your dog when it gets dark.
  9. It worked fine two days ago and yesterday I have nothing. Nothing on the dash lights up or on the exterior. I took a panel off under the steering column and since then I looked at a buddies manual that said I need to remove another cover so will dig deeper.
  10. After hearing this I will be exchanging it. I had one about 5 years ago and had nothing but good to say about it, I lost my dog in an auto accident so I ended up selling it. I think it got at least 300 yards. They really shouldnt be selling them and advertising 400 yards and only getting 30. I see the dogtra 280 is highly recommended, whats a good place to get one? Thanks guys.
  11. Just bought the car about 3 weeks ago from my father in law and the turn signals do not light up at all. Fuses are good. Any suggestions?
  12. I picked up a sportdog SD400 collar about 3 weeks ago, the range is supposed to be 400 yards and I could only get about 30 out of it so I exchanged it for another one and this was about the same. I called sportdog and they mailed a new transmitter right away. I haven't had a chance to test this one out completely yet but it looks like the range is under 100 yards. Just looking to see if anyone else has problems with theirs and if I should be looking at a different brand. Thanks Scott
  13. I haven't done this, really havent worked with aluminum much. What would this mean to me? Any future problems?
  14. What does this mean if the aluminum is oxidizating? Maybe when I ran it without water it cooked the oil and it just needs to be cleaned up with some oil changes? As far as metal filings I only found a few flakes of metal on the magnet which is normal. I will change the impeller before spring and do a mid season change next year, thanks for your help. Scott
  15. I have been using pennzoil gear lube that is marine grade, bought at walmart if that helps. I do have a good stream of water coming out the hole on top if that helps also, I could change the impeller as its been awhile. The last time I changed the impeller was a few years ago and that was when my problem started. The motor was ran for about 30 seconds out of water and ruined the impeller. How would that be connected to the problem I am having now? I know the prop turns easily so I doubt the bearings in the lower unit are bad but maybe as SF said it could possibily be the upper shaft bearing. I have been going two years on the oil change and I wonder if a bearing would hang in there that long, I wouldnt think so. I have felt the lower unit temp by hand after it has been ran awhile and it has always been similar to the water temp, definatly not much warmer anyways. I would like to get this fixed before anything major breaks thats for sure. Is there any way that the exhaust can get into the oil where it may be getting sooty? Thanks for the help guys.
