Good job blackjack, congrats on the deer.

I shot what looked like a yearling doe at 20-22 yards in the tall grass Saturday night. I made a perfect double lung shot & she only went about 30 yards before piling up in view. Wish it would have been a yearling... Vealison anyone? Boy is it going to be tasty though.

delmuts, you realize all of the single guys, (I'm married) want to know if your daughter's single & how old she is now that you said you were helping her put up a tree stand.

Congrats on the doe, Guppy, it's great when they pile up quick.

decided to try for deer sat morning instead of ducks, was a little late in getting out but it was cloudy and very windy from the north west. was walking up a old driveway to a grove when I saw a deer about a hundred yards away heading straight towards me and the wind was at my back blowing sightly to the left I was in plain sight good thing it was kinda dark out with the clouds. so I slowly moved off the driveway behind some willows and waited for him to come to me. that felt like a long time and I could not resist peeking to see if he was still comeing. I could see him almst clearing the willows so I drew back and waited, he was broadside 10 feet from me when I let go what I thought was a perfect heart shot, who misses from 10 feet? tail went up and he did a header about 40 yards away, it was my first deer by bow so I gave him 20 minutes or so and went to look for it, when I got up to what I thought was a doe it turns out it was a spike, the antlers were about an inch or so long I was suprised. There was no way to see those little things but the arrow actually hit the jugular of the side I shot and came out by the shoulder and it was snapped in half. Did he jump back cause my sights are on and I was in sight but he was half way past me, oh well he is in my garage now waiting for me to cut him up. My brother in law says I have dumb luck. he was about 130 pounds. might have to do it again.

Shot a dry doe last Sunday, she was with 3 other does and 4 fawns, so I was trying to figure out which doe didn't have fawns, All were about 20 yards feeding on alfalfa so I had time, I just picked the smallest doe in hopes she was without fawns and I guessed right. Right throught the heart at 25 paces, ran about 50 yards and died within sight, gotta like that.

well with the rain ending this afternoon has anyone heard of this and any experieces behind it?

After a rain or snow bucks will want to get up and check their scrapes due to the fact they don't like knowing that their scent could be gone?

I was out Monday night and with the wind, the deer weren't moving till late. I did manage to see a nice doe and 2 fawns, but they stayed out about 50-60 yards. A nice 10 ptr got hit by a car tonight, just west of town by the casino, what a waste. I'm going out tomorrow night with Sam Cook from the Duluth News Tribune paper. The article should appear in this Sunday's outdoor section. Wouldn't it be great if I could get a deer tomorrow night? Keep after 'em, the pre-rut is on!!!

Went last night, moved a stand to a spot with three new scrapes & lots of fresh sign. Didn't see anything, from most of the people I talked to today for whatever reason most deer didn't move last night in our area. I didn't see squirrels or anything, one woodpecker.

fun today. I decided to take my chair along today and sit by a tree. I walked into the breeze to the backside of a chunk of land we hunt and sat in a new spot. 30 minutes after I got ready a nice young 5 point was heading towards me. he munched on some leaves right in front of me and walked around for 10 minutes or so. 8 yards, broadside, lookin the other way. what a blast. no idea he was being stared at. he finally walked off and got straight down wind at 12 yards but the deer polish I had for lunch didn't bug him. I thought for sure it was snort time. he finally just walked off. I look at my watch and it's 5:30. nothing over the next hour but another fun time in the outdoors.

I was out on 10-20-04 north of Grand Rapids and saw 3 bucks and a doe and fawn. All of these deer were together and the 8 ptr was pushing around a 4 or 6 ptr. There was also another 6 ptr watching the show....too bad they were 100 yards away. I was out for a AM hunt 10-21-04 and didn't see anything. Needless to say, I moved a stand to where those 5 were standing. Now I can't hunt till Tuesday...dang it! I had Sam Cook from the Duluth paper with me and the article should be in this Sunday's Outdoor section.

I was out 10-17-04 and had two four pointers and a doe come in on me late, about 15 min. before dark, never got a shot, but they were some nice bodied deer. Went out to the same spot in the evening on 10-21-04 and saw 3 four pointers, but they came with only about 5 minutes of light left so I never got a shot at them either(they were broadside at about 15 yards, but it was just to dark). Went out on 10-22-04 in the evening hoping that this would be the night i would finally get a chance at maybe a doe for the freezer or a decent buck from the spot that I had been seeing these deer at, but it turns out I didn't see a thing.

Hope to get out at least 1 or 2 more times this long weekend before school starts up again on tues. Good luck to others out there, and keep up the reports--there great!

I stuck a 6 pointer last night after sundown. Went about 40 yards before I heard him crash. He came in to the rattling antlers and stopped exactly in the center of my best shooting lane and waited for me to hang up the antlers, grab the bow, clip on my release, draw the bow and shoot. All at the distance of 13 yards!

This stand is really unusual. I've taken 5 bucks from it in the last 7 years. All rattled in and all bow kills. What makes it unusual is the fact that I never see does and fawns in this area. It must be sort of a "boys club" area where females are not allowed!

I'm not complaining, just sharing.

Polar Bear, haha I love it

I've been having the same thing happen with one of my stands this year, I've only seen bucks out of it, kinda different. I was seeing them consistently untill this weekend--last 3 nights I haven't seen a thing, kinda bumbed about that. Anyone else have any luck this weekend?

I hunted Wednesday 10/20/04-10/23 and noticed a difference from the previous two weeks. First the deer were moving from about 2:30-4pm, mostly smaller bucks. Second, I actually saw deer the last hour before sundown instead of only after sundown. Very very little scrape activity so far in Walker area.

Was out Thur morning, saw six deer go thru the woods about 60 yards from me, a doe, then a doe fawn combo, then three small bucks that were still together. Had the same SE wind Fri morning, went to a stand that was closer to where those deer went thru, saw nothing! Just when I thought I had them figured out!

I hunted Friday in the St. Cloud area and has two 8 pointers under my stand towards evening. Let them walk as they looked to be only young ones with baskets. They did check out the #307 and I was doing some rattling. I prob woul have seen them anyways though.
