Getting the line out

Recommended Posts

Well I figured I would check in with you guys and let you know how things are coming along. Been out one day so far and I have out 12 cubbies so far and a dozen or so snares all for lynx.

Heading out tomorrow to build another dozen cubbies or so, and then on the weekend hoping to double up again so i have close to 48 cubbies built and set by Sunday.

We had a nice meltdown last week and everything turned to ice, now it is very hard to read the sign, lynx are walking right on top of the snow, and the bunnies are not breaking through either. Anyway, I hope to have some pics for you guys tomorrow if everything goes well.

what kind of cubbies are you building? are you just using small logs? Never really looked into getting a lynx, (Kind of a bad thing to catch in MN right now.) Also are you just running snares in trails or do you drop one in front of a cubbie?

there is a snare behind every cubby on a walk around trail. Then the dozen snares i talked about having set are on trails. So really i have two dozen out, but 12 of those are with cubby sets.

Cubbies are just small branches stacked up to form a teepee of sorts, i will take some pics today

Ok i ran the line today and did not get out as many new sets as i wanted, i just ran out of time. But i did connect on one lynx, which is what all my sets are for right now.

I'd like to see some pics of a "monster" when you get one. How big do those things get?

Lynx last year sold well, upwards of 400 bucks, this year there is not much interest on the taxi market for some reason, and the prices are going to be down at the auction houses for all fur this year because of the economy.

I am hoping for 150 average on all my cats and i will be happy.

Baby is doing great, 4 months old now, beautiful baby girl. Sure is harder to get away to set and run the line with a little one around.

How is your baby doing picks? How old now?

she turns one year old next week. He two older brothers (7 and almost 6) are great with her. You will learn that your time for stuff you used to do all the time gets shorter and shorter each year..........

When She is 3 I will have a fur parka and boots, mitts and pants so she can join me on the line smile Then thats the best of both worlds.

    • A 12v camera with light available from Tomtop out of China $70 with 65 ft cable on reel. Its color HD resolution 1000tvl better than 720p used by Marcum & Aquavu HD units. (Except latest Marcum 1020p latest camera $650). Only drawback, it takes 20 to 30 days and $6 shiping. Link to Tomtop camera. They off a lot of camera options so you may want to da a bit of searching. https://m.tomtop.com/p-y3578-15.html?currency=USD&Warehouse=CN&aid=gplausyly&mid=10000018477&utm_source=SEM&utm_medium=Google Adwords&utm_campaign=TT_PLA_YLY&utm_content=2945&gclid=Cj0KCQiAxs3gBRDGARIsAO4tqq3wBcNnVRFIUf2QknDLs18FF6NrhJ9raJW9BAdaowvDD1gw08q_abwaAilBEALw_wcB Pic simple wire diagram. • Looking to get a camera for nothing but connecting to the ice house TV.  Want good resolution and color for kids. What's the best economical solution? Thanks, EJ
    • Dang, this thread has been an eye opener.  And here I only ignored my wife for 10 years, it's funny some of you are still married!   🤣
    • need to win on home ice, no matter how good they are. seems as though we lost our home ice advantage, looks like we may be getting the home cooking working again.
    • congrats on the 10 years. I got curious how long I have been here, I hit 16 years last month, I can't believe its been that long. 🤓
    • Looking fabulistic grainbelt!! How long did you let em swim in the marinade anyhow??
    • Great advice and sounds like you have had some great times on the great Upper Red Lake!  The difference on Red from having a good day to a great day can be as much as moving 20 feet away!  From what you explain I would try to befriend a local or rent an ice auger and bring with the cold gear.  Rent your house like you are and then throw the auger in the car and explore or just pop holes in the area of your house so you can get out enjoy the uniqueness of fishing outside and your chances for landing more fish increases greatly opposed to hard house fishing.  Good Luck!!
    • I have been here a good 17 years and I think there is only about 1 guy left here that I have met in person. Back in the day I knew and met several members who were frequent posters on FM. I met quite a few of them through the BP Catfish League but I think most of those guys are long gone.
