I would definitly reccomend a marine band radio for anyone out on the lake. Just from a safety standpoint they can be invaluable! You can listen in on changeing ice conditions and have communication with many of the resorts/guides in the immediate area in the event you would need help in an emergency.

What channel do you run up at LOTW?

Depends where I am I guess. Most all of the resorts have particular channels they run summer and winter. Sportsmans runs two different channels depending on which side of the lake they're on. I try to stay off of the resort channels to avoid excess radio traffic, Most of the bait shops and resorts close to the lake also have marine bands in the office so it's always a good idea to stop and ask what channel they're on in case you need help you can radio in. The guys I fish with try to stay on less used channels to keep the other "eager listeners" from knowing anything I don't want disclosed.(i.e. location and how I am doing fishing)! grin
