Borch
The thing about the gun safety class is even if you were born before those dates you can still go and learn. I've seen several older hunters who take the training. Plus several states require you have the training even if you're, well..."more experienced in life".Like I told my one brother, "Even if the kids don't plan on hunting they should go to gun safety if there are guns in the house."Regarding the wounding of the animal. Well we do everything we can to prevent that in our group. Sight in or pattern guns, practice and wait for a good high percentage shot. It can still happen but it's pretty rare in our group. Part of that practice is getting that second shot off whether your hunting with a rifle, shotgun, black powder gun or bow. You usually don't need it but if you do the practice can make all the difference when it counts.
Powerstroke
I totally agree with Borch. Take the class if you can. There is a lot of great information about more than gun safety. I know in my class they taught us how to field dress a deer.
