taking a friend hunting

I'm going to a friends cabin this weekend in Aitkin and was going to bring a long a pellet gun to take a few squirrels if I wanted to get away from the crowd for a couple hours. I have a friend who would really like to get into hunting and I know that there is a apprentice hunter program, so should I have him get a small game license and the apprentice hunter validation to go with me, or is it not necessary if we hunt a couple of squirrels on the private property near the cabin? I think he would need the license and everything but just thought I would check!

I don't know if I would be hunting squirrels in the woods during deer season even if it was on private property. If you feel you must make sure you are dressed up like a halloween pumpkin.
