Quentin gets Jack Clarked

Recommended Posts

American League home run leader Carlos Quentin has a broken wrist, and the Chicago White Sox left fielder will have surgery Monday that could sideline him for the rest of the season.

Quentin was removed from the lineup before Tuesday's game because of what the White Sox described then as a sore right forearm, and he hasn't played since. The team said Friday that he was hurt during last Monday's game at Cleveland.

A screw will be inserted into the wrist, and he will be re-evaluated in two to three weeks. Quentin is batting .288 with 36 homers and 100 RBIs.

Quentin missed two games after he was hit on a forearm by Boston's Josh Beckett on Aug. 11. When Quentin returned Aug. 14 and was plunked by Kansas City's Kyle Davies, Quentin became the first player hit by a pitch in six straight games since at least 1920.

Quentin has been hit 20 times in all this year, the most in the American League.

Chicago said Quentin will be operated on by hand and wrist specialists, Dr. Mark Cohen and Dr. John Fernandez along with orthopedic surgeon Dr. Charles Bush-Joseph of Midwest Orthopedics at Rush University.

He still deserves the MVP. We will just have to have other guys step up and fill the gap. Griffey signing is not looking too bad right now, eh?

Ya I thought when they signed Griffey they were off their rocker, but can he stay healthy enough to play a couple games in a row?

Windy can't argue with that one, but there are players lurking. I do hope things go well, but it does look good for the sox when your back up is 80 and cant play 3 games in a row.

can someone batting only .288 win MVP?

A better question for Windbag: Can someone playing for a team that misses the postseason win the MVP?

(Oh, yeah... Rod Carew 1977.... But he batted .388...) smile

Hey Sled,

There was this team a few years ago and they dominated the playoffs and won the World Series in a crushing fashion and the highest batting average from any of their players was .290.

Want to hazzard a guess as to what team that was? We will be just fine, and who would you pick as MVP?

Carlos Quentin and Lil' Nicky Punto are both currently hitting .288... Coincidence?... or conspiracy?... You decide.

(There is that HR gap, but LNP just needs to hit 34 of 'em in Sept to catch up and he's a shoe-in for MVP...) smile

Oops... This just in: LNP goes 0-3 in tonight's game and is now down to .285. All MVP hopes now must be considered 'on hold.' Stay tuned.

Buzzy,

You ole stalker you! I haven't talked to you in a month of Sundays! How's life treating you, man. Our power is out at the office so I am sitting in my shorts at home waiting for it to get turned back on. Might get a day off here. My daughter got married Saturday. How's the photo business? Looks like it is the Twinks and Pale Hose once again, to the amazement of all the "experts" who salivated over the Kitties and Tribe.

Pauly did not look good taking that tumble, nervous times here, to be sure! But how about DA BEARS!!!!!

    • that is so great!!!!!  You folks are raising a good son!!!!
    • Well I couldn’t make it over there yesterday, so my son went over today after school to tell her thank you but he’s going to take his stand down. After a 30 mins conversation with her, he now gained bow hunting, shotgun hunting and turkey season next spring. She told him that he has permission as does the other gentleman and don’t worry about it. This is where it gets good. Cole went out to his stand and guess who shows up asking what he’s doing. The other “kid”. Asking why he is back out there, Cole explained to him that he talked with the land owner and sees no reason why they both can’t be out there. The guy stormed off. So I called him a while ago.....yes the first 15 mins were not some of my best moments, but I finally was able to get to the bottom of his problem. He’s never shot a deer, he’s never shot anything and only took up hunting 3 years ago. Whoever has been “coaching” him has given him some very bad information. Told him things that I’ve never even heard of. So I told him not only will we help set you up, but we will move your stands into good spots, I will hang a double set if wanted and either myself or my son would be glad to sit with you and help walk you through the first time, video tape it and even offered to let him come sit in my ground blind on my field and get him a shot a doe any night. We are all meeting tomorrow night so i can go over some maps with him and show him where I would put my stands at if I were him. I told Him instead of running my son off who could a complete asset to him, learn from him. He might be only 15 but he’s a wealth of knowledge and loves everything about hunting, not just the killing part. He just wants to be in the woods and help others. Looks like a bad situation may turn into a good one.  I hope at some point this fall I can post a picture of my son guiding this gentleman to his first archery deer.
