Gar fishing rigs

I caught about 1 gar out of every 10 runs. I use a #4 treble hook with small cut bait. I also use rope baits. I need tips for rigs with cut bait. I heard theres a lasso rigs, but know how to set them up.

I have used rope, I would rub the rope on dead smelly cut bait, they would grab the frayed rope and twist around and get their teeth stuck in it. I wouldnt use a hook while using the rope. This has been the best way to catch them that I have tried! It isnt easy getting them unwrapped from the rope after you catch them though.

What about a long thin hook, like a #8 Aberdeen, with a crappie minnow threaded onto it, under a bobber?

Might work. The problem is the mouth is very hard and bony, making it hard for any hook to stick.
