Homer derby

Recommended Posts

Heard the lefties have an advantage tonight with a shorter right field. Pretty cool to have a Brewer and Twins in the derby - might even root for that Twinkie if Braun goes out before him grin

Anybody got any prediction on the winner? I think Josh Hamilton will be the winner.

I've been around 'ball a lot of years, more softball recently where the homer is king.

I've been with Long-Haul trucker guys, Demarini guys, Worth guys, Coffee Cup for the old-school St Paul local guys, and have never seen a display of power and endurance like that before......ever. Not even close...

They can hit 'em far in bursts but the longevity of that Hamilton display was unreal......

WOW, Hamilton put on the show, but morneau walks away with the trophy! Impressive!

Morneau looked like the cat that swallowed the canary. ESPN treated it like: the "fly-over country" home run champion and moved on to celebrity softball.

I'm not sure which one of the talking heads said it, but they totally discounted Morneau before he took his first swing of the night since he was a last minute addition and didn't feel that he deserved to be there. He went on to say something about there being "five white guys" and where are the hispanics at? Pretty poor.

I'll tell you what...I'm not a Twins fan...or a Rangers fan...but I was so impressed with Justin Morneau's humility. What a class act he is...you guys have an oustanding human being on your team. It was obviously Hamilton's show...and Morneau was such a gracious winner in recognizing that.

Nice job!

I would equate this to Hamilton winning the first game of the World Series 50 - 0 and then losing the rest of the way.

Those announcers made me sick to my stomach mad. Even after Justin wins, they swept him under the rug and wouldn't shut up about Hamilton. They ought to be ashamed! So glad they are eating crow right now. It was a great first round by Hamilton. Amazing! I believe that if Josh sits out the second round, he wins. Just goes to show you it's not a single round, but you gotta show up for all three rounds. Way to go, Justin!!!

Sadly, the guy giving the check to Morneau called him Jason. What an embarrassment... He was treated like [PoorWordUsage] tonight.

Who was the announcer that made that racist comment tonight?

"I question this selection because Morneau is a white guy."

ESPN is so bad, it's not even funny.

It was a true lack of disrespect to Justin! He played well through the entire derby, with out any kind words said about him or the Twins!

I dont know who it was either but that one announcer was a a$$. Like when he said the wind from left was starting to knock balls down, then whoever was up blasted 3 or 4 to left field right then.

But that was truly amazing to watch.

From the ESPN article

When it was over, Morneau was left practically apologizing for beating Hamilton.

"I was lucky that we got reset," he said. "This was his show. He deserved to win it.

"It does seem kind of unfair that he didn't get to win the whole thing," Morneau added. "Anyone who was here won't forget that performance."

What a 1st class guy and to think that he plays for us is even better.

yeah talk about disrespecting a former AL MVP......fun to watch but the announcers were pretty bad....give the guy credit and get over the 28 hrs and move on with the contest........

I don't understand why Justin had to almost apologize to the announcers for winning it. It's true Josh clearly had the more dominant performance, but he should have been thinking about that when he sapped his strength in the first round. This same kind of thing has happened before.

I can understand the fans reaction to his first round performance, but it's almost like they took depressants before the finals. Kind of a let down to such a fun event.

Hat's off to Justin for being such a class act. Mauer too in his interview.

    • Results are out!!    Did not pull a tag this year. Maybe a surplus tag in my future...
    • American Redstart was back and catching bugs by the hostas !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  (those ! are for you smurf ) He let me get pretty close.
    • Congrats on MN and WI   It's been a great spring and the birds just seem to be getting fired up even more now.
    • could be interesting for ya!!!!!!!
    • I think I am done for the year.  Wisconsin was a success for me these past few days, but not so much for the rookies I took with.    I called in a nice 24lb bird with 1" sharp spurs and 10" beard on Friday.  The weather really shut them down after that.  Finally Sunday morning in the rain showers they came out and put on a show for four hours, but the big tom just would not come in close enough for a shot.  Hens dragged him by me one time with a few second opportunity to decide if I should try to stretch the range of my gun, but I held off thinking they would come a few steps further...  They did not...  He had spurs easily over 1", never gobbled, just strutted and drummed around the field all morning.
    • Very nice birds!
    • I'm going to hit it hard looking this week. I promised batter fried Morels for Memorial day lunch with the smoked pulled pork I made. 😬
    • No luck with morels near La Crosse these past few days.  Found some ramps and lots of pheasant back / Dryad saddle.
    • We finished up the seasons with 3 great birds. All 3 had 1 1/4 spurs 11 inch beards and one with 11.5. Two birds weighing in at 23 lbs and the other 22. This year we had gobbling like in the past . These last 5 years has been very minimal gobbling if none at all some years. This year was similar to when we started hunting these farms. The high predator population is why i think they do not gobble as much. Even this spring had a yote mess up a bird walking right in to me he was in killing distance but I was liking the show so let him keep coming my error. Yote came running in and chased him off :(. But we did end up shooting this bird Friday morning. So he only was saved once.   See what happens this weekend. I'm supposed to take a buddy out hunting in MN but if that falls through maybe make one more run to WI.
