So...... How's the fishing?

Recommended Posts

How's everybody been fairing this year? Whats the biggest fish you've pulled in so far? I've been out quit a few times the last month or so without much succes (my biggest fish being about a 3lb Northern). I haven't been able to run into any 'eyes yet. I've been having some success with the crappies, but seems like when I find them its a chore to get them to bite. I've been doing a lot of lake hoping. (whats your opinion on that? do you like to fish one particular body of water and try and find fish, or do you hop from like to lake as I do, trying your own "hot spots" you've had in the past?) I'm not really looking for any information, just trying to see how you all are doing out there and maybe sparking a little conversation.

I'd say average. We had shady weather so I didn't get out as early as I wanted. But I have caught some here and there. A couple over 20" and a few under. But I don't go as much as I want to. Talking walter action.

I have picked up a 5#2oz and 3#13oz Northern while fishing crappies on 2# test and ultra light gear. That was a blast but the crappies I have taken have all been less than a pound. Took a night trip to the east side of dead sea last Friday night and only picked up 2 small eelpout. All the guys we ran into said it has been really poor for eyes last week.

I'm new to ice fishing this year. I've been to 4 lakes so far this season. No bites on the first 3. This last Sat I went to my 4th one and finally got some action. I had a nice northern break my line on my rattle wheel and caught a small crappie.

I was excited to finally get some action. I love this sport.

It's been decent, so far fishing exclusively here in the cities. Have done very well with the gills and crappies, as well as some pike(biggest being around 4lb) and have only went after the eyes once(caught 4). It's been good so far, although i got skunked for the first time the other day, that's always a bummer.

I haven't done very well on crappie. Several days that we went out we were skunked. Early season however we were bringing home our limit almost every night. No walleyes yet. Done very well on northerns though. Several in the 7-10 pound range. Did ok today though, 7lb northern, half a limit of crappie and 1 good perch.

I finally ran into some consistent fish today for the first time this season. Found some nice sunnies out on Knife Lake here in Mora. Pretty nice bite going until about 5pm and it started to become a struggle to get them to bite, although I was still marking fish.

    • Ben - The Accountant Keanu - John Wick Brad - A River Runs Through It Robert - Jeremiah Johnson Chevy - Caddy Shack Nick - Leaving Las Vegas   2nd picks cuz they’re close: Ben - Good Will Hunting or The Town Keanu - Point Break Brad - Legends of the Fall Robert - The Natural Chevy - Vacation Nick - Gone in 60 Seconds
    • Find this on Amazon and you can use Bluetooth. It has 2 different outputs. 3.5mm and RCA:   Logitech Bluetooth Audio Adapter for Bluetooth Streaming
    • Ben Affleck  -  Dazed and Confused Keanu Reeves - Speed Brad Pitt - Sleepers Robert Redford - The Natural Chevy Chase - Nation Lampoon Christmas   Nicolas Cage - The Rock
    • ok I got it figured out, not sure its the best solution but it works.   I thought the 3.5mm jack on the jbl speaker was an output, but its an input so completely scrapped that. I was hoping to go that route so it would charge my phone at the same time.   So instead I opted for this option instead:     It works and I have left and right stereo and its not mono. It sounds ok but I may splurge for a 3.5mm to  digital input cable and see if its worth it.
    • Armageddon Constantine Inglourious Basterds(sp) Jeremiah Johnson The vacation movies   And I don't remember the name of the movie  but Nicholas Cage played a soldier in the Crusades who had to transport an accused witch to another town. • I'm gonna list 5 Actors, if ya care to play, list your favorite movie that they have appeared in.   Ben Affleck  Keanu Reeves Brad Pitt Robert Redford Chevy Chase   *time out* Bonus 6th pick..... Nicolas Cage
    • I want to connect my iPhone to an old home theater receiver in my garage I am sure there is lots of ways to do this just trying to think of what would be best.   I have an iPhone with no headphone jack. Not a problem I currently put it on a dock with a speaker. That dock has a 3.5mm out that I should be able to convert into something that would work as an input to the receiver?     Here is the back of the receiver, its an old ONKYO that I had set up as a home theater many years ago. Its been collecting dust in the basement and I still have all of the speakers so I thought, hey I could really jam out in the man cave with some good speakers if I can get everything hooked up correctly   I could go 3.5mm to rca (red and white) and I think that would get me stereo and not mono?   Or could I go 3.5mm to digital optical or 3.5mm to coaxial? See all my options circled in red below?
    • For this episode of the Duffman & Wanderer bass show I present to you the third week of August.   Wed is my usual day to get out. I figure it's before the Thurs night leagues and gives some space from the weekend warriors. Wife had a work party at our house, bonus water time for me. Too bad it was on one of "those" days. Sloooow. Talked to a regular, he agreed it was slow and chimed in "Two days ago though" Argh, that's all I needed to hear after only catching 3 bass in 5 hours. One went 4lbs, a 2ish, and a sub pounder........those little fish aren't usually where I'm fishing.   Gave it another go today...........short biters for me all week. Dealing with some pea green soup water, today was already clearer than Wed. That 4 was blind in one eye, seemed to be a lateral line strike. Maybe that's why they are short?   Had some action today at least, a smaller class of fish,  2.5 - 3 lb range. A half dozen, missed a couple, had two pop off, seen one.......20" class fish. Did the usual #@&%$,!, and casted again. I think I need to sharpen some hooks.  Still cranking, although I jig n pigged today for a tad......I never jig n pig. Forcing myself to try other things.   It's always interesting observing fellow fishermen. There's pressure everywhere these days. You recognize folks that look like they know what they are doing, and others that don't have a clue. I think I seen a 12" screen on a kayak this week!. I watch what people are using on a spot, and once they move on, I have no problem moving in. Fishing seems cyclical, some years are better than other's. That's fishing, hope you are out on the days when the "HOT" bite is going down.    Tune in next week for another episode.
    • To bad your not up here in Minnesota.  There are Ice houses on lots for sale all over this state.  You could stop in with a tape and get the dimensions you need.
