Terrible racing news

Scott Kalitta, age 46, was killed in a crash in qualifing Saturday.

It was definitely eerie seeing the side shot of the exploding car in the Strib online edition.

Very dangerous sport. He had retired a couple of times before, but came back. He left behind some young children.

i met scott at BIR, me and my son were walking up the staging

lane and scott was in a mini van getting ready for a run.

so i said, scott got time for a autograph? he came out of the

van and shook our hands and talked with us for 5 minutes till

it was time to get into his car. the guy was a class act!

Those drag racers are a crazy bunch, sitting on top of 8000 horse power and going 300 mph in a quarter mile. EXTREMELY dangerous. All accounts are that this was a great guy that will be sorely missed. RIP Mr. Kalitta.

These cars just keep getting faster and how much can the steel in these cars take? Seems there is a loss annually.

Sad news for sure the reports and video's I've seen all say he was a great guy.

Very sad news for the racing community. I grew up watching drag cars and always liked the Kalitta clan. They did a lot for the sport and I am sure they will continue to do so.
