It can't really matter that much!

Hey, i have the Zercom Clearwater Classic and i've been reading the post's on the different model locators and even though my locators 6 years old, it still works great and still gives me target seperation. It does'nt have"zoom" but i can still see fish coming off the bottom and hitting my line...So really...does it matter?

That is what I use and the advantage is the battery lasts about 10X longer due to the LCD and not the whirly bird color. Shades of grey are fine for me. I can even see my bobber stop knot on it!

If it works for you then that's all that really matters. There are some differances and improvements out there and each person is likely to view those things differantly.

Does it matter? depends on each person and their individual fishing styles and habits.

As for me, it does matter, the improvements allow me to see more.

Scoot, is your transducer upside down?

my bet is that he does mean he can see his bobber stop knot.

If you use Ice Buster bobbers and remove the bobber, you will often use the same rod to jig with and your stop knot will indeed be submerged and you can definitely see it.

Scooter & Magnet,

If you're expecting a revolution in the way you fish occurring upon purchasing a high end flasher, you're in for a let down. However, you can expect expect an enhancement of exceptional magnitude. Really, I kid not, because I have frequently thought the same way as you about flasher upgrades.

Here's my history with them. Si-Tex FL-6, 1986-1989, why would I need anything more? Vexilar FL-8, 1989-1999, wow, colors and power, this is a huge leap from the FL-6. Vexilar FL-8-SLT, 1999 to 2003, I like the new depth scale, much brighter, I miss the beep when I turn it on.

That's all I need. I catch fish.

But I could get Marcum LX-3. What an enhancement! No more globs of fish. I know where my bait is in a pack of fish. I can see the bottom huggers.

Will I catch more fish? Yes, I might catch a couple more. Did it change my life? Well, no. It's still just fishing. But, it sure can enhance the fishing part. And, that's important.

What I'm saying is, if you can do it, it is worth it.

    • I'm no bird expert, but I'd like to think one of those big neon signs that lights up orange with "OPEN" on it, would help!!
    • Swap the wild bird seed for sunflower chips. Goldfinches love it!
    • Probably 10-15 years. At least.
    • At first glance, I was going to ask if the circus came to town.  LOL.    Really, there is a bird visible there in the photo.    How long has this arrangement been in place?  I ask, since it does take awhile for the birds to find the new feeders.
    • Another summer with few birds. Anybody see any problems with this feeder assortment? I have 1 or 2 Oriole pairs when I had dozens last year. I have a couple catbirds. I have nuthatches galore like everyone. Purple finches are still around. Also have cardinals like last year. I did have 1 Indigo Bunting but no neat/unusual visitor birds even passing thru. More red-wing black birds than before. No hummers. No goldfinches. No grosbeaks.  I've read house sparrows chase things away and I do have a quite a few but not infested by any means. Lots of blue Jays. Very few of the assorted bigger blackbirds. Haven't seen a cat prowling around hardly all year either. Feeders are kept well stocked (safflower, thistle, premium wild bird seed, black sunflower, grape jelly, & hummer juice) and clean with fresh seed but none of my favorite birds I mentioned. That PVC pole hasn't had a squirrel figure it out for at least 2 years and the couple that did aren't talking. Is this too much too close together? Any suggestions?
    • Dang...  I just passed through Ely on Sunday and glanced at the store, thinking about him.  Quite the character.  No more rides in the Pope Mobile. 🙁   Rest in Peace Sir Maki.   Thanks for posting @leech~~
    • The steep sides on shore continue and drops off pretty fast.  A good peecentage of the pond is 8-10.  I saw one spot that was 11 foot.     The neighbor says it has springs and it took a bit longer to get walkable ice than it should have considering the size.  I had been out on a couple smaller metro lakes last winter, figured it had to have been frozen pretty good.  Two steps on the pond and fell right through. It didn't seem to suffer from any winterkill last winter.  It doesn't get a lot of weeds.     Still working on a fish survey.  I can confirm that there are big goldfish and bullheads.  I have seen some pretty good size swirls around dusk making me wonder if there aren't a few bass in there.
    • How deep is it?  May be they would care if you drop a few bass and sunnies in it?  😉
    • There are other houses on the pond, nobody has a dock though.  I don't think my neighbors would care, I kinda ran it by the guy on one side.  Because the county plat map has the pond divvied up between 8 different properties on the street, I would think that technically taking a kayak around the pond would be trespassing.  Nobody has complained though and during the winter there were skaters and people running their dogs all over it and nobody asked me for permission.  Not that I care at all.   I don't need a Hatfield / McCoy problem with the neighbors, but at the same time it's my property.  If I had a McMansion on Crystal Lake in Bville nobody could or would complain about me putting a dock out.
