I'm a cattle rancher and I'm sick and tired of Canada's Ag Dept. They flood our market with cattle that are fed up there with gov. subsudies. Then when we import this live cow with BSE from them and it turns out to test positive they shut the door to our flow of cattle into Canada. Canada overproduces and exports 50% of their beef. We in the US export %10 and import 15% and we have the safest product in the world without a case of hoof and mouth disease or BSE ever till they sent us one. Just a word to canada, you thought the last border closer hurt wait till the dust settles this time. We may even get the Country of Origin Labeling we've been pleading for for the last 8 years. Sorry I got on a rant. Things have been a little stressful the last 7 days. Just remember fellas, if you can buy from a local producer, you will get the best quality and safest product anywhere. If you buy it at walmart, you're buying someone's old dry cow.
Do me a favor. Ask your Grocier and restaraunt were they get their beef and were it originated from. Tell them you want your beef born, fed, and killed in the US, a country that has never had a case of HOF or BSE ever.

Hi fish to fry,
Like I said in the post, sorry to rant but enough is enough. NAFTA has helped Cananda and Mexico kill every ag bussiness from logging to fishing that this country has.
Back to your question, yes I've been getting a little fishing in. We got quite a warm Christmas that melted the shoreline but I think it's been cold enough as of late to make it out today or tomorrow.
I posted some pics of my catch froem one of my stockdams on this thread:

How's your fishing been going? Hope all is well. Stay in touch.
Les

I think we have a better chance of death from the flu than to get sick mad cow. Nothing to get alarmed about. Now poor guys like me might be able to afford a steak once in a while.

Kripes, That cow with m.c.d. came from Canada. The media is blowing this thing all out of proportion. If there was one cow, where is the 2nd? This is not anything close to the Great Britain thing. The media has no clue... They must be all liberals.

waterbeater I'm with you on the country of origin, and people wonder why our economy is
in such tough shape, drive through any parking lot and look at how many foriegn cars
are there. Somebody will say that they're built here, which is right but the money leaves our shores to a foriegn corp. As far as people being afraid to eat our beef, they should worry more about the mexican kid serving them their chicken sandwich at some fast food restaurant, not being able to read the sign in the restroom saying that they have to wash their hands before returning to work. I'm more afraid of that. Enough of that, time to go ice fishing!!!

Hey tdk,

It must be easy for you to make racially intollerant remarks when you can post things on the net. I have an inclination that you keep your remarks to yourself when you meet other ethnicites in person.

troutstix, deputydan, sorry if I offended you, maybe I should have said some kid that can't read english. Would that be racial? I don't think so. I feel sorry for the american farmers like waterbeater. But people seem to worry about mad cow disease and don't worry about you could pick up from dirty hands at some fast food stop. Sorry I offended you again.

tdk,
Apology accepted, although I am sure there are plenty of kids who can read english that chose to ignore the signs! Hope you don't mind if I quote you: "Enough of that, time to go ice fishing!!!"
cheers to all

Well, since I did not hear from the DNR regarding the CWD test they performed on my deer, I guess I will continue to feed my family on good healthy Venison. MMM nothing like a nice rare cooked back strap grilled along with a few bacon wrapped shrimp to bring on the new year!! I have to say I do agree with the country of origin label on my beef though. I do buy some of that too. I ate about 1/2 of a chicken breast sandwich about a month ago from a fast food joint. When I go to the middle, I realized it was only half cooked. I won't say the name, but it is also the name of a female starting with a W and ending in 's. smile.gif When I brought it back up to the counter, the person working there had a difficult time even understanding what my problem was. She did manage to say she was sorry( in broken English). That was it. I dropped it on the counter and left. I am not sure what I expected her to do, but I guess an offer for another sandwich or another complete meal would have been appropriate. I would have politely declined it anyway, since I no longer visit that place. Anyway, I have to agree on the fast food causing more illness that Mad Cow in the US and I would guess that somewhere, there are statisitics to prove it. Maybe someone will post them. Have a great new year all!

Not worried about Mad Cow at all. Since unlike the Brits, I don't fancy sucking down cow brain and spine juice. Give me a nice big AMERICAN BEEF burger, oh yeah and an order of fries.

    • In late summer end of July and August when the water warms and the oxygen drops in the shallows. I have caught Eye's trolling deep diving raps, plugs behind dispy divers for suspended fish over 50-70 feet of water where the bait balls are. So, yes please don't follow us lost crazy people around out there! 🤪  😁
    • They call it 'No Man's Land' because nobody fishes it, unless they are lost, stupid or their locator is in simulation mode. That works for me because that's my comfort zone. Most people wouldn't believe the numbers of trophy fish I have caught in water that's over 50' deep. Recently I was out on a local lake trolling for walleyes in deep water with shallow and medium diving crankbaits, and I noticed 3 other boats that were avoiding the normal structure. Maybe their locators were broken or in demo mode, but for there to be 4 of us driving slowly around the open water, it seemed like more than a coincidence. I boated 4 eyes in 4 hours, with a smaller average size than I was hoping for. I am not looking for lakes, spots or secrets.... I am just curious if anybody else has noticed these 'fools' fishing water too deep for 'normal' fishing. Or maybe you have tried it a time or two, let me know what made you steer your boat away from the shoreline? Did it work out for you?  Is this style of fishing becoming more popular, or am I just paranoid?
    • Don't know yet if there are more.
    • nope, they just like my bluebird houses! they got evicted again 2 nites ago!!!!!!!!! i learned a long time ago no millet. i only feed sunflower and safflower seed along with thistle!
    • WinnerDinner, what do you fish for there In Ireland?
    • Well there's that! 👍
    • Speaking of lures I remembered something... Recently I have been trying to understand how to fish at night, was never really much of a fan before. Don’t overload yourself with tackle when fishing at night. Use a smaller tackle box and make use of two or three separate, small containers for all the necessary items like hooks, weights, small bait etc. Night-fishing success means not using bright lights and being very quiet. I feel in love with my new glow in the dark fishing lure, it is so underrated, there are quite a lot of these glow in the dark lures at places like Amazon and such. According to veteran fly-fishermen trout that are all but impossible to catch during the day will be more likely to hit at night. Why? Because these fish are nocturnal feeders. They venture out from under the logs and out of the deeper holes to feed in the shallows. Of course, when you’re seeking trout or other shallow feeders at night you’ll have to take extra precautions to stay safe. So far I've been doing good with my night fishing adventures.
    • My "BROWNING STRIKE FORCE SUB MICRO" was a dream. It really stands out for its exceptional daylight clarity and amazing battery life. The images this game camera can capture put most 12MP cameras to shame. It also uses power very efficiently, even with heavy use of video – especially if you install a set of lithium batteries.  You can expect several months’ use out of them which is even more impressive when you consider that it runs on six AAs, instead of the more common eight.
    • They only have 2 options in life: 1 - get hunted. 2 - get ran over.
    • Crazy thing just happened to me while fishing off my dock... Was throwing a topwater, not paying attention, and SPLASH, I set the hook and nothing there. As I was reeling in to try that spot again, I heard something in the big pine next to the dock, but didn't think anything of it. Recasted and heard something again, turned my headlight on in time to see an owl heading to and then kinda hovering over my lure...  I thought that was weird... A couple casts later I hooked a small bass.... Then I lift it out of the water and as I'm reaching for it, the crazy owl swoops down and about hit me as it tried to nab my bass!!! Holy $#!+ I said out loud and decided to go up the hill before I got attacked. But not until I got pics and videos of the brave bird.  Last summer I had a very similar up close encounter with a great blue heron and a crappie, right at dusk with a heavy fog coming in... Not sure which one surprised me more!!
