Lake Mendota Fishing Reports

Recommended Posts

I see there has not been much activity here so I am posting a fishing report from a local expert. Personally I haven't had much success yet, mostly rough fish but the weather has been great!

Walleyes continue to be active at night on Lake Mendota. Try throwing stick baits and swim baits in 3-6' of water. Fish the points, inlets and outlets. Panfishing action continues to be in the bays and channels. Lake temp. for Mendota is in the upper 40's to low 50's. Smallmouth bass have been cruising in 6-12' of water along the Univ. shoreline. Catfish were active today in Cherokee Marsh. Cutbait seemed to be working the best. Lake Monona Bluegills have been in 2-5' of water in Squaw Bay, in front of Olin Park, and Monona Bay. Bass have been in the shallows in the Yahara River around the piers. Shore fishermen have been having good success for Bluegills at Tenney Park locks and in the inlet at Olin Park. Crappies have been active on the south end of Lake Waubesa in 5-8' of water. Minnows fished under a bobber have been working best. Musky action has been slow, but some reports of active fish have been reported on Lake Waubesa and Wingra.
