Rats, Demons, and other things after dark

Recommended Posts

Glow Demon and a wax worm are my #1 panfish killers!
Use the larger Demons for walleyes also.
Good LOWoods lure for wallyes, saugers and jumbo perch.
Now where can you purchase the Mega Glow Demons? Can't find them anywhere! mad.gif

I've been a big fan of the shrimpo's and ratso's for some time. The only draw back is that the pike love 'em too smile.gif I just picked up a bunch of the Nuclear Ants -- I really think they'll be productive and the changable legs will allow for some great color adaptation.

Spike,

I agree. Those Nuclear Powered Ants look like killers.

I like the mix and match color idea they allow. How about a black body with the orange skirt? Is that fresh fish I hear sizzlin'...

The secrets out!
That's too bad for those waxie distributers. After using ratso's for the last couple years I must say, You can leave the bait at home when it comes to panfishing! The glow bodies are killer for panfish and the orange, black and silver sparkle, and pink and white are great choices. Dennis Steele might remember a fishing trip on Horseshoe last year when he caught all the cats, but I caught all the panfish. All thanks to those ratsos! I just wish I could but bulk tails in a particular size and color.

Custom Jigs and spins is one of the best icefishing tackle companies I know of. Their Demons are my favorite walleye and crappie lures and when the crappie bite slows down I switch to a Shrimpo with a wax worm.

I agree the Demon has been a reliable crappie lure for years. Hit the glow version with a light they call a Nuclear Flash and you can see the thing glowing 10 feet down. I got a Nuclear Flash last week and I believe it helped me convert lookers into biters. It worked well on the Shrimp O too.

Ya I use a lot of Customs stuff. I love the Demonds for LOW and Red. They also make a lot of great finess plastics for panfish. Im glad to see them aboard.

Fellow ice fishing fanatics,

I just wanted to point out a new sponsor on FishingMinnesota.com, Custom Jigs and Spins.

I know most of you are all familiar with their products. Who here doesn't own a Demon or 20? I'm guessig most of us agree a glow Demon with a small minnow after dark is a crappie slayer. I can't tell you how long that has been a stand-by for me. Seems like forever. And, who hasn't salvaged a finicky sunfish bite by tieing on a horizontal hanging Rat Finkee with one Euro tipping it. I remember days on Osakis where that bait has been my savior.

Their baits have stood the test of time in my tackle box. Excellent hooks, great colors, great glow patterns, and they catch fish. What more could you ask for?

I was very excited to see their banner appear today. They'll make FM.com a better place. Don't be shy to welcome them aboard.

I remember that trip where eyeballs spanked me with the Ratso's.I was fishing with waxies on what I thought was a great little panfish jig.I think I caught one or two while eyeballs and the Ratso's alone caught the rest.I ran out the next day and bought a bunch!!

    • I would get a dlb ladder stand and sit with my kid as much as I could.  Don't let the dude bully you if you have the right to be there as well.  She may not know the age of this person if he had his kid go down there and get permission and he is really doing the hunting?
    • He has permission from the landowner, let him hunt. If the 50 year old does anything to affect his hunt that is "hunter harassment" and he should be charged.
    • Obviously the guy has "passion" for "his" hunting spot.  I would try to meet him face to face with your son and see if you couldn't reasonably discuss it and come to an agreement.  Possibly do it at the landowners home if you want to put him in his place.  This of course first goes with how you feel this gentleman would be towards a talk.  After all it is not his land and he can't just bully his way around.  Now if you feel he is psychotic then don't bother.  I have a chunk of land that I can't hunt (even though I have permission and all the rights to hunt it) because the neighbor is crazy enough that he will possibly hunt me and I don't need that feeling of being hunted.  Hope you can work things out!  People get funny when it comes to hunting land especially when they know there is a bigger deer in the area.
    • Can anyone suggest a good place in the North Metro to get a Honda EU2000 tuned up? Been running problem free for 6 years so I figure it's time.   Thanks in advance for the help.
    • Tough deal on this one.    You've got to decide how much fight you want to put into this.  There are also a lot of life lessons here to teach your son just depends on which one you want to focus on.    In most circumstances I would start out by going to the landowner and explaining the issues and see if you can get it resolved.  However, with it being an 85 year old woman you'll have to decide if you want to drag her into it. I'd probably at least inform her of the issue so that she's aware of what is happening on her property and what type of person is out there.  She should at least know that much as the landowner  If she wants to make it right then so be it but I wouldn't push her on it.  Just leave it as a heads up and let her know your son will move on as to not cause trouble if she doesn't seem like she's got it in her to straighten things out.
    • Honestly, I would probably do what you did and tell my kid he did everything right, but to move on. This is assuming you didn't get the impression the guy was going to change his mind when you spoke to him.   Unless you know her, the last thing the landowner probably wants to do is get involved in the dispute. And I'm sure you don't want your kid out there alone, not knowing if the older guy will confront him or how unreasonable he could be if he does.
    • Kind of why I want to work with him rather than just [PoorWordUsage] him off.
    • Sounds like a good neighbor to get to know if he's going to be around all the time.
    • My 15 year old son knocked on a neighbors door about 1/2 mile from our house. She is 85 and owns around 120 acres.  He's been watching 2 nice bucks all summer long.  She gave him permission and said one other neighborhood kid is hunting it also but lots of land shouldn't be an issue.  He went and hung a stand a few weeks ago. Its the property where he shot the doe off in the previous thread.  Well the neighborhood kid turned into be a 50 yr old guy down the road.  He showed up at our house last evening, I wasn't home and had a discussion with my wife about how my son shouldn't be out there, has no right to be hunting there and didn't discuss it with him.   If he shoots one of the bucks out there, there will be problems.  I obviously called the gentleman last night and expressed my distaste for his attitude and his discussion with my wife when she was alone.  I also stated we are talking about a 15 yr old kid and I'm proud of the fact he's able to go around knock on doors, ask for permission, share his ability with landowners and get permission all on his own.  I talked with my son about it, and told him it would probably be best to not hunt over there and he needs to go take the stand down and move on.  He was heartbroken, since he got the permission on his own, put his stand up, cut shooting lanes.  I get someone being protective over a spot, I tried to explain to the gentleman that we are talking about a kid.  He has the permission to be there. How would you guys handle it.
    • I will get it surveyed at some point, just not a high priority just yet. I'll just post the side along the road for now and maybe the east side. He lives there year round and told me he has never seen anyone or heard shots on the 30 south of me and the 40 north of me. When I walked the property, I found 3 stands, all 3 belonged to the guy I have been talking to. The one he uses, an old ladder stand he is taking down and an old permanent that is rotted out.
