in wisconsin the musky season is closed during the winter so not too many people target them though it isnt that uncommon to lay into one while tip-up fishing for northerns

I have targeted them and managed 2 in one day. My first 2 through the ice too by the way. On my first outing using this "Sucker-um-in" system.

I used a Wind Tip-up and 7" Mooneye on a quick strike rig. A hearing, dead sucker, or a Goldeye may work about as well, I don't know? I just like feeding big fish Mooneye I guess? wink.gif

I set the wind tip-up next to me about 20' away and aggressively rip-jigged a mag Rattle Trap next door. I switched off with a BIG Saltwater Sized ZIP and the Mag Rattle Trap. I had more come in for a peek that day with the Trap. The water was a bit murky so that may have been the deal too? Thump and noise is what I wanted to call them in for a closer look. Agitate the snot out of them and then stop...let them take it out on the bait bouncing on the tip-up.

They came in to check out the Trap commotion and both hit the bobbing Goldeye after circling a few times.

I can't wait to give it a go again. It was a hoot!

Works well on big pike too Eh. wink.gif

    • Odd, looks like home made brackets on the ends?  May be they had them for some kind of tarp outside?
    • Just picked up a 1978 Bethany compact 560. Got it set up but I can't figure out what these 2 adjustable poles are for.  Anyone know?
    • friend good luck to you and your wife!!!!   I do know where you are at....  my prayers to ya............
    • Anyone been out this past week? My bird hunting has been cut short this year so I am depending on others to keep me up to date. My wife has Breast Cancer and is starting radiation treatments soon, lasting a good part of October. I may be able to do some deer hunting depending how she is feeling. She has had surgery and the outlook is great and she feels great so that's the main thing. Good luck to all you hunters.
    • dont everyone post at once!!!!!!🤣😂 hummers bailed from itasca county, got a couple still around cold spring, seen them yesterday. but i havent seen any robins in a while. anyone else???????????????????????????????????
    • My routing was keep all the drive train zerks greased every few outings, change oil & filter yearly and front and rear diff by-yearly unless I did a lot of swamp running.  There are a bunch of helpful videos on the Tube.
    • I was out today putting up a deer stand and came across a lobster mushroom. I don't think I have seen any this late before. I will be enjoying the little gem tonight.
    • thanks for the write-up - and great pics!  hopefully these stories will keep me interested until i have my own west hunt.   good luck to all
    • Always enjoy the "out west" write ups!!!  I really appreciate you taking the time to share your journey!!
    • Well I wasn’t going to do any fluid changes untill next fall but it’s been a little more than a year and I just clicked 1k miles. About 30-40 hours since last oil change. I think I’m just going to do it. So last time I just took it to a dealer but it’s expensive, the machine is gone for at least a week and it’s a hassle to deal with dropping off and picking up. So I think I’m going to try it myself. I’ve changed oil on things many times before so this isn’t anything new. I’m going to get ahold of my dealer and see what I need and have them walk me through the steps. I want to change the oil, the front and rear gear case oil and I’d like to do the transmission fluid also. I also just saw Polaris has a deal now through the 1st of oct for $10 off an oil change kit. So I think I just need an oil change kit and a quart of gearcase oil? I also have a new spark plug I’ll through in and go through the machine like I always do every few months. I know @leech~~ had a magnum what did you always do for maintence?
