wondering what peeps are gonna use for their first cast of the year for a muskie? my very first will be as it is every single year on the croix, a super shad rap. slowly retrieved just outside current and inside bays. only difference is this year i'll have the option of useing the one color that has worked for me most in the past. for four years i aint had this color after they discontinued it and mine all got destroyed(yep, they work grin.gif ). thanks to HSOList i'm back with 2 more. oh yeah. uh huh. gonna be a good year for pike too. well what yer poison??

Honestly... I dont even know what I will be throwing as I have 8 new lures I got at MN Muskie Expo... along with 28 new lures I'll be ordering from Muskie Tackle Online between April and June... but the odds are that the first lure I'll throw out would be the infamous PINK/PINK Cowgirl!!! I know some of you were thinking that I would throw out the PINK/PINK Super Cowgirl... but honestly... Im saving that for my Oct 14th trip on Mille Lacs with Steve Jonesi... Gotta keep the Pink/Pink streak going!!!

Holy Sh!t. Now that's a serious lure order Rebel. I'll be getting a few from him too since Muskie Innovations came out with the Crankin Realfish offer he has, have to get something else with them of course.

As far as the first lure thrown we'll see what the weather conditions are on June 7th. Probably a smaller bucktail of some type though.

Tippman... thats just the TIP of an iceberg!!! 28 lures from April to June from MTO... but what I didnt further disclose was that I'll be ordering 68 more lures from MTO from July to Feb of 2009... Aaron has the order by month list... how serious is that??? From April 2008 to Feb 2009, 96 new lures... Its whole lot easier than trying to find a danged wheelbarrow for the MN Muskie Expo... and I figger I owe it to myself since I became sooooo greedy for the Expo... and didnt even manage to complete my wish list... Im pretty much stocked for everything except for lures... and I need MORE!!!

Reb.....that is a pretty healthy ordering obsession you got going there. I have managed to only order/buy 50 new baits this winter. Pretty much done ordering until I can get on the water and then will fine tune the arsenal!!!!

First lure of the year will probably a Black with Nickel bladed Super Vibrax.

I really don't know where I am going to fish opener this year. That will have everything to do with what I decide to throw first. If I am out first thing in the morning, then it will be a black topwater of some kind, probably my Wally Pog, if not then a pacemaker nice and slow. The rest of the day will be all small in line spinners and spinnerbaits. Maybe will twitch some 6" Jakes too.

tell ya what guys. how's this for a deal. if this thread gets to 5000 R.E.'s i'll give my most sacred and protected fishing pattern for rivers. it's the one i use exclusively and have had success with it for over two decades. with it i had a 70, 63, 48, 45, and several over 30 muskie's landed or boatside release totals per year. also in those years i had numerous northern pike and 20'' plus smallmouth bass. i don't have to power fish all year, in fact i barely spend time on them. just a couple hours everytime i go fishing for them. then i fish what i want to fish for, you know try other things. it's a perfect system and i finally got to teach something to my grandpappy amos instead of the other way around. still remember the look on his toothless face \:o . was great. anyway. real posts, no cheating. it's worked on any river i ever fished. it works on lakes but you need to know the lake really good. been thinking mabe some year head to the big pond alot one year and try it. definately going to hit the st. lawrence or chippewa flowage for two weeks next year. anyway have fun/.

Depends a lot on where, when, weather, water conditions/clarity/temp, etc.

In general, more towards the mid-size stuff, with the exception being an early AM Weagle, gotta dance with the one you brought to the Prom, right?

After that, maybe a Lilly Tail, or another mid-size 'tail like a Nug Tackle bucktail. Thick hair that acts like a weed guard. If I find fish like last year on a particular spot-on-the-spot, it'll be a jig 'n' pig fished off the clearings. Reg sized Bulldawg may get wet too.....fished slow in those same spots where the J'n'P would be used, almost as a jigging bait.

Probably be the DCG in custom green w/silver & gold that I caught 17 on last year, cast as far and reeled as fast as humanly possible, all the while giggling like a little school girl. grin.gif

It'll be the shallow weedy bays of Vermilion for me for sure. I'll be throwing No. 5 Mepps, a bit smaller than some will throw but just right, to my mind, for the coolwater 'skis. I'll back it up with a 6" Reef Hawg.

And of course I'll have a light spinning rig and a box of smallie lures in the boat, too. If those 'skis have total lockjaw, there are usually a bunch of hungry smallies still on the beds or nearby in shallow water with the odd shallow 'eye thrown in. grin.gifgrin.gif

How is the service with Musky Tackle Online? I see the prices are competitive, anyone used them before?

Yup, bait selection depends on location, cover, forage, weather conditions, fish mood, etc. and reacting intellengently (which I haven't complelely figured out yet) to their preferences. I'll let you know the day after what bait I used first.

Aaron is get to order through. I have ordered a bunch of lures and stuff from him. Everytime that I have ordered, my order was shipped the same day. Very fast and great deals. I would recommend him very highly.

i think i'm changing my mind after using the rapala slash baits today and seeing just how well they work in the water. i have plenty of confidence that they will produce. other than the colors being the new rage junk, they are great. i give them an 8.5 rating of a possible 10. 1.5 only because they make you buy the new colors with no choice for oldschool colors. tough lure too. casts like a bullet.

Don't let that color of the Purple Ghost fool you, I'm guessing that's one of the colors you referring to....am I close? ;\) The irredecsent purple and related colors is a go-to for Fall 'eyes, so it does produce.

Glad to hear they got the thumbs up on your test run!

    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
