Lazer mag vs. lazer 224

Optimax Man

Question

I'm looking at purchasing a new strike master auger. For about $20 more I can get the lazer 224 instead of the regular lazer mag. Curious if it is worth it? I fish out of a big house which I don't move very often. Has anybody experienced trouble re-drilling holes with either model?

I've re drilled holes with the 224 a number of times, works well. For $20 more I would personally get the 224 over a 2 blade laser. Down side would be the extra cost when you need to replace the 4 blades.

I also run a 224. It will reopen any hole...even one from a different auger. For the 20 bucks its a no brainer. I figure I have drilled about 700 holes with mine, give or take a few and it hasnt even showed a sign of dulling. Not knockin the mag but also have a buddy who bought his the same time and probably 300 holes drilled....he already bought a new set of blades!

The Lazer Mag isn't one for re-opening holes. I've got 5 holes in the house and will never open all at once. If it's cold out and the 3 holes I've got open freeze in halfway beyond chisel, I'll open up the other 2. Now I will say that after 2 days of freezing in, they'll open up no problem but the next day it'll bounce all over. If you're strictly fishing out of the permy I'd go with the 224.

I love my 224. It seemed to cut as fast as my buddies Lazer 2000 but I didn't know about the recutting holes benifit. It always starts in cold weather, cuts fast, is light, what can you say. After using my old Jiffy 30, there simply is no comparison.
