fishingguy
I have been living in the stone age, until today. I used my fl8 for the first time, and it is amazing. I got so caught up with watching it, I missed several bites. I don't have all the ins and outs of it yet, but I did get the basics figured out. If I would have none about these things, I'd have gotten back into ice fishing a few years earlier. Technology is COOL!

kslipsinker
Should have sprung for the FL-18. With the auto zoom you can watch the entire water column and zoom on the bottom 5 feet. The definition is amazing.
Dr. Bob
Once you've done it going w/o is like not having 4WD or bird hunting w/o your dog. It just ain't the same . Enjoy -
mistermom
I was out a couple of weeks ago and after I'm all set up I find my battery is dead. I sat there for about 10 minutes not knowing what to do. Finally I fished two bobbers and twiddled my thumbs.... I've gotten to the point where I can't fish without the vex.mm
fishingguy
It is a hole different style of fishing to get use to as well. Jigging vs. bobbers, feel vs. site, watching a screen vs. watching a bobber. I have a lot to learn, but from what i have seen so far, I'M HOOKED! Dano2
This is my first year useing one as well, actually, this is my first year ice fishing, cant believe I didn't start this years ago.The flashers are AWESOME, anyone that says they dont help you catch more fish is not up to speed.Last night me and a friend were out for wallys, he was fishing a hole about 5 ft. away, and I was KILLING EM, I caught about 25 to his 2, I offered him to use it and fish my hole, but he's a little ornary and just saud "NAH".Its nice how you can see whats working and whats not as far as your lure, and jigging. Guest
Good deal guys. Flashers certainly aid in the seek and destroy aspect of fishing. Less time seeking, more time destroying. craig
Fish Toys
I had a friend that was selling his FL8-SLT because he didn't know how to use it. Well he read the inf. book & tried it on LOW and now he is using it and decided to keep it!Wished he would have took the time since he purchased it <1999> to use it sooner.Live & Learn."FISH" ------------------http://www.icesaws.com/
Guest
Imagine if you had been the one to buy it!!! How long before you think he'd want to buy it back? I give it 1 hour on the ice. "sought da' fish?"
CANOPY SAM
I agree they're pretty fun, but I get really frustrated on days when you can see a ton of fish down there and you can't get a darn one of em' to bite anything. I guess sometimes I'd just rather not know that I'm a terrible fisherman!

Guest
Wow. This brings me back to when I first witnessed an FL-8 being used. It was on a Saturday, and I think I picked up a brand new one for myself on Tuesday. The wife wasn't too happy about the major purchase, but soon after she demanded I pick her up one as well after witnessing it for herself on the ice. Glad to hear your friend came to his senses. thanks, Westlin
Old Guide
I've got a Fl-18 it's been so much fun to watch/use that it's almost addicting. Might have to put it up in place of the tv..let the cat walk under the trans. he! he!
IceNutt
Since I've seen FL-8 mentioned here, I'll sneek in a question. I was pushing depth limits yesterday fishing at slightly over 100' with an Angel Jr. The problem/question: At that depth when turning up the gain to see the lure I got so much garbage on the screen I couldn't locate the Angel. Is the Angel Jr too small or do I have a different problem? Thanks------------------IceNutt
icehousebob
Icenutt, At that depth, it gets hard to pick up a small target like an Angel Eye. Remember that you're looking at it from the top, not the side, which makes it a pretty small picture. A guy I work with fishes Lakers that deep and uses large airplane jigs or one ounce round leadheads. From the top they give a much larger profile. That must have taken you a long time to get an Angel Eye to that depth.

Fish Toys
I've had the same FL8-SLT for years and informed him he should read how to use it and try it! I told him how it works and what to look for! I guess another happy Vex owner!Best info a guy can give his friends!"FISH" ------------------http://www.icesaws.com/
Guest
i love my fl8 also been using it for about 5 yrs. now and do not fish without it but u can MISS a lot of bites! by looking at it too much-u must learn to watch your line more closely and u will catch even more fish, the vex does not help catch fish just locate them.location location location, the experience fisherman knows this
Finlander
Fishunguy, try putting the FL-8 directly behind your hole in line with your rod tip so you can watch the rod tip move when the fish srikes your lure. That way you can keep your eyes on both at the same time! And you won't be like a tennis fan looking back and forth!Good Luck!
Cliff Wagenbach
Fishunguy,It is very hard to take your eyes off of the Vex. when a fish comes in. After many years of using mine I have "slowly" managed to take my eyes off of the screen and watch my bobber or rod tip as soon as I am sure the fish is an aggressive one and will probably bite!I have forgotten my Vex. at home a few times and always get the feeling that I may as well have left my fishing rod at home too! Can't live without it!Cliff------------------Cliff's Guide ServiceCliffsGuideService-LakeVermilion.comLake VermilionPhone: (218) 753-2005
Guest
Yep,I forgot the Vex once, and that was in the summertime. It's truly like fishing blind, even in July."sought da' fish?"
mjhowe
The coolest thing about a flasher is it helps you adjust to what the fish are doing. Yesterday, we had a whole bunch of negative fish, they would come to the jig but just not bite. What I learned from watching was, if I lifted the jig, twitching it as I did, sometimes as much as 2-3 feet above the main school, there was always a fish or 2 that woulf charge up and hit it.Thats how I got almost all of my keeper perch, almost daring them to rise up and hit it. 2 other guys that were fishing without the vex just had to take what they could get, while I was able to make things happen. Caught 2 personal record perch, one 1.25 lb and one 1lb+, both going around 12-13". For Montana, thems some big perch!Owe it to the vex and the Glow Devils which wre the ONLY things working yesterday.------------------MikeKalispell, MT<<><<"LOOK ALIVE, MAGGOT!"(Not you Pal, I was talking to my bait)
Guest
YOUR ROD TIP DON'T ALWAYS MOVE WHEN U GET A BIT! IF THE ONLY TIME U CATCH A FISH IS WHEN YOUR ROD TIP MOVES U R MISSING A LOT OF BITES! U MUST ALSO LEARN TO WATCH YOUR LINE TO C THE VERY LIGHT BITES,IF U CAN LEARN TO DO THAT U WILL CATCH MANY MORE FISH THAN YOUR CATCHING NOW,ANYONE CAN CATCH A FISH IF THE ROD TIP IS BENDING ALL THE TIME
