KOTC Gathering Recap

First of all I would like thank everyone for participating and making the gathering a huge success!

Big thanks to Grant and Aanderud for putting in the extra effort to secure and transport the firewood for the night. Also the guys that shuttled the boatless.

It was a great night to be out and we even had a few fish cooperate with us. No big flats by the shore fisherman, but Ed and Kyle boated a 36 and 20 late into the night out in the boat.

We arrived at about 4 and paraded down to the sandbar. We were a little weighted down with gear and firewood:

Hanson was the first to get on board with this nice channel. He looks pumped huh?

Then nightfall came and it was time to spin some cat tales and enjoy the weather. Here's Aanderud with his "seasonal concepts" lawn chair grin.gif

Shamu got into the channel cat action as well with this real nice one:

A few of the guys decided to head out on the water and try a few different spots. Not before Hanson found a surprise in his boat as he was leaving:

LFC was also enjoying the Channel bite:

and one of those "other" fish cool.gif

don't try this at home:

Morning arrived and the long night took it's toll on a few. Notice Blue Kayak in the backround, he was bound and determined to catch a flat out of that kayak:

another one bites the dust, you might recognize the boxers wink.gif :

Thanks again everyone. I had a great time! Hopefully we can do it again real soon.

Gathering was a great time!

I had so much fun, I slept from 8am until 4:30pm on Sunday. Woke up, grilled a chunk of steak. Laid down afterwards about 6pm and woke up at 6am this morning to my alarm clock reminding me to go to work. Sheesh! All-nighters can really kill a guy.

I hooked into 1 fish after our bump into every chunk of wood in the river trip at midnight to the "secret spot". Yet another fish I've lost this year swimming at the boat. Doh! Trip back was even more fun with the fog. Haven't seen it that thick all year. It was great to get back to the sandbar and festivities.

Great to see the good turnout! Food and beverage were great! And there was one heck of a smartfire! wink.gif You could see the orange glow from 2 bends away!

Whoever missed the gathering missed out on a good time! If there is another before the end of the season I won't miss it. It was nice to meet those that I didn't know all ready. Fishing was a little slow, but I did pick up two small flats out in the boat.

Every thing Flaco said.

It sure was fun!

I had a couple things against me that evening. The first was a long ER room trip Friday night with one of my son's. He got his right hand pointer finger stuck in a bike chain and pulled it out (I EEEEEEE! and at least they saved his finger). Heading in Sat. with almost little and no sleep from that issue and the boat issue from the start (thanks for all the offers on the tow back, LFC and others).

Add in the heat and sun, I was plan wore out.

I did get a second wind when I got the motor to fire up! Put a smile on my face. If found out yesterday it was corrosion in term on coil. . I think with the new disp. Cap install, moving it around was the cause of the failure and the cure.

When we left island we went up stream. I figure with boat concerns and every one else going down stream, we would give it a try. Hit every snag, hole, drop off and even ventured up stream of bridge and just could not get anything to bite. We located fish, arch's all the way. Could have been a full moon thing. We ended up leaving the same time as Tom. Nice to meet ya!

But all in all it was fun and nice to meet and see everyone.

With my little sleep and hot sun, I figured not to bring beer (I would of drank a whole case). If I had beer, I would have broken the ice a little more.

Thanks guys.

So are you saying you can't wait to "take it in the mouth" again?
laugh.gif

Oh NO!! I can't believe you went there! blush.gif

LOL!

Can't believe one slip got as much humor ROTHFLMA's by so many in one night. Honestly I'm trying to remember the exact nature of how that slip came out.... Not sure that I really want to know... It could be my subconcious repressing the memory. Or the Big Whack from the Capt, and the other stuff (Rushing.... Wheewwww).

But if someone wants to rehash the nature of the conversation. I could use another chuckle though I probably won't live it down. smirk.gif

take the shot if isn't one of those had to be there to get the joke.

I'm fairly positive no one can remember the context in which that slip came out so you are probably alright Larry.

As to Larry's slip. I was not in on the original conversation, but a little bird told me it had to do with taking a bottle of intoxicating spirits "full in the mouth." It seems like that's a practice we should all emulate. On second thought, I guess we did.

Thanks Darren for all you did to get this together and for posting the pics and video. You firemakers were awesome. Lets not forget the fireworks. I'd never seen an underwater fireworks display before. Wish we had a video of that. Seemed like fishing really tapered off after that.

You know it's funny. This event just ended and I'm already thinking of ideas for an end of the year event.

I would love to do it again, this time with a few things to spice it up (like we needed anymore of that).

Anyways, here's a thought. Hold it on a Sat sometime in Sept or the last weekend (getting pretty chilly then). We could award bonus pts for fish caught during the gathering to go towards the years totals. Kind of like the yearly bonus pts.

Top three for each specie of Cat

One fish of each specie entered per person

30

20

10

Gar

10

Turtle

5

Sheephead

5

Carp

5

Walleye

-5 grin.gif

Here's the kicker, the fish would HAVE to be caught at the gathering AND at the location of said gathering. This would insure no unfair advantages to the boat challenged and also an incentive to hang with the bunch and socialize. Might also lead to some fun times jockeying for the honey hole.

It would also give a chance to some of the teams with guys that weren't able to get out as much as previously thought.

Just thinking out loud here.

Spice!

Boy, you guys sure know how top spice things up. We could hear the yells, I saw the fireworks display and we could see the fire from two bends away (like someone said). We missed all the fun on the clay! I will attend the next one, no doubt! cool.gif
