HarryG
I just put in a washer and dryer. I purchased a vent kit to replace the old vent in the house. It was all aluminium and the vent tube was the expandable tube type that was recomended to me by the repair man who sold it to me. The problem was that the aluminum tube was difficult to get on the connections and it ripped. Even when I did get it on, it was not very secure and would most likely tear off. I was going to do the solid pipe but that seemed somewhat difficult to work with. I know there is a minnesota guy that has a solution. Thanks
Eric Wettschreck
The expandable stuff in junk and rips easily. However, where it is ripped it can be duct taped. Where it connects to the dryer and the outside vent it can be either hose clamped, wire tied, or duct taped. In all honesty, the solid pipe is really the better way to go. It is more sturdy, but more importantly it free flows better. Meaning, lint traps less easily in the solid pipe and creates less of a fire hazard. HarryG
Thanks for all the advice. I finally went with a better grade duct pipe. It was flexible but tough enough to hook up without a tear. I found it difficult to find the type I was looking for as most of the pipe was for heaters. When it comes time to replace it I will use the solid pipe when I can find it. I did use more elbows so I would not have to make so many bends with the flex pipe.
DRH1175
speaking of dryer vents I just discovered a 1 inch slice in mine I have that cheap foil type. I have a Gas dryer so carbon monoxide get me thinking I better get that fixed asap! Is there a better product? The harder pvc type is that regular pvc or a special application for vents? Thanks
