plastic decking vs. wood

I built the Trex deck with Timber Tech handrails. Them handrails went for 40 dollars a foot. The benches might not be as pricy. We loved the trex however we spilt some greese from our grill on the decking and never could get the stain off. The shadow track was nice as well. All screws in the bottom instead of the top. I was told to use ceder instead of Treated because treated lumber tends to warp real bad after it has weathered.

I am employeed by the only composite deck manufacuter that is from Minnesota. The gentleman that talks about the qaulity of Geodeck should do some research on that product.

It is hollow and they had an 11 million dollar recall on their product because it falls apart. Trex doesn't have any antifungal in the blend and it will mold. Our product has the antifungal in it, we have been adding for 3 years now and will not get the black mold spots on it. Ours also comes with a groove and is mounted by a clip which uses half the hardware. The only screws showing on the ends and none on the rest of the board. Very Clean look. It is more expensive than green treat but we have the lowest cost compiste decking on the market. Most of the cost a deck is the labor and the frame structure. I would say its .30 to .40 cents less per foot at retail than the above mentioned deckings. We have had our problems in the past as everyone has in the composite decking field but our product won't mold any more and our grained surface surpases anyone's. Local lumber yards can ask for it Thru Manions. The name is Rhino Deck, locally made with recycled plastics that is collected through out he 5 state area. Just my 2 cents worth. We have sampled and studied all brands and they fade 20-30% including ours. If you take an orginal from anyone and put it next to the orginal and computer test it a 5% fade is stretching the truth a quit a little. Its the fiber in the board that fades not the plastic.

We are in the maintenance free deck business. Trex is by far the most popular (and probably the worst.) Everyone out there that has trex or any other wood composite look at the deck and count the black dots on it. You are seeing mold. Geo deck did have one recall . We DO NOT sell any certain decking but GreoDeck is probably the best composite out there. No wood flour with a 20 year warranty. Plastics have a tendency to expand and contract. Moral of the story is "There is NO silver bullet"

Southwest,

So far from everything I've heard if I was going to go with plastic decking I would def. be giving you a call. You have a lot of nice facts to your post. Common sence would tell yah that something that is hollow wouldn't be as strong.
