Sometimes its the jigging rods that help bring the fish in.. You may not catch any on the jigging rods, but I would not abandom them. As they may be what is attracting the fish to your area. Then the fish end up bitting the dead stick. Another idea would be that you could try to down size? A small jigging rapala type lure, or smaller spoons like a crappie size and just a minnow head or even just a couple of wax worms.. this has worked for me.. I will very seldome just put down deadsticks though.. even though some days you dont catch as many on the jig rod.. I think they get the assist on every fish you catch on your deadstick!
