Oneida Lake

Recommended Posts

Took a drive around lakeshore dr on the edgwater area and found 2 shacks and 2 bucket sitters off of McClanathan. Rough ice out a few hundred yds then smooth from there. Was some open water there yesterday am but capped off last night. I guess I'll wait till the weekend to venture out. Timmy: Do you think there are any walleyes left. grin.gifsmirk.giflaugh.gifwink.gifMay head south for a nite bite on Wed.

Went and checked BB today, lots of guys out there. Didn't see too many bluegills, and few crappies unless they already went and emptied their buckets. The only thing i don't like about BB, are all the $$$ fisherman, I think it's a crime to sell the tasty bluegills to the fishmongers. But too each his own I guess.

Next 2 days are going to be cold, so this weekend should be a good 1 almost anywhere i'm guessing. Maybe trip down by the edge with you guys sometime next week, I want to check out Tims fancy fish catching sonar units out. Maybe get 1 for my b-day in february, those things work on crappies too right?? smile.gif

Fished Sandy Pond on saturday, got just a dozen keep bluegills. There were about 100 people there, most were pike fishing, about 200 tip-ups on the pond. I think I got the biggest amount of bluegills, I moved around a lot, but think maybe the barometer was off so the bite was slow. 5 inches of good ice there, ans 2 slush frozen on top and easy walking.

Fished BB on sunday 7-12, 3 inches good ice, 3 inches bad/white on top. Saw a couple guys towards the mouth of the bay, started making my way out and found ice on top of slush then 1 inch ice towards the middle. Abolutely no keeper fish all day, saw 1 descent crappie and that was all out of the 15 or so partys I saw out there. I'm thinking the gills are out on the pug on the other side of the bay already, this time of year they head for the deeper water I guess. Maybe next weekend i'll venture out fron the BB bar and see how things gel up.

A few people in front of Constantia walking, I went out friday and only found 1 1/2 inches of ice, better them than me. 1 guy was out on Dakins, but I still think ice is not safe at all.

Well i'm off. Going to big sodus next weekend, need some perch 4 the freezer.

Well I couldn't agree more, last weekend was a great example of my blind fishing ways. Although its not financially in the cards that I purchase a vex or marcum new, maybe a used 1 would be more like it. I am checking out hsolist and other outlets to see if any used or reconditioned ones are about. I might be better off buying one in August though.

There were a few guys in front of the bank in constantia today, they fished 6 hours for 7 perch between the 2 of them. No machines were out , and i'm expecting a report later on ice thickness + will post tommorrow. Remember if you go out by the bank in Constantia, Scriba creek is to your left 100 yards, and has been running pretty good lately, so much thinner ice up to 1/4 mile out from there. Go straight or to the right and you'll be fine.

Last week a friend of mine went through the ice on his 4 wheeler. He owns a car sales business in Camden. His billboard sign in front of his business posted The ice is thin, the water is cold, stop at Donnie Z's and we'll mark it sold. Guess that his employees had a bit of fun.He is a great friend and glad he is still ice fishing. grin.gif

North Shore - surprised to hear it was Donnie that went thru on the wheeeler - glad to hear he is ok. He must be taking an absolute pounding on this one. I used to work for the state and did a lot of auditing work on both the town and village of Camden. I met Al because he was the town clerk and met Donnie a couple of times with Al. Had some good discussions about ice fishing and so-forth. Once again, glad to hear he is ok.

Oneida is good for sleds and maybe 4-wheel drive wheelers if you have high ground clearance as well. The walleye action was good a week ago, we went out yesterday and bounced around a lot and only 4 perch all morning. I wasn't in the spot we were catching walleyes in last week, but i'm sure they are still around. Access from Constantia is good, but I did see 1 4-wheeler stuck, but it was an old rear wheel drive with cruddy tires on it towing a shanty. The snow is packing down real good, and I think 99% of the lake is accessible now. no news from the east shore boys, I think they have been all trying to win some jingle at the 2 tourneys on Silver.

Tank, send me an e-mail at [email protected]

Well you were right about us trying to get some jingle, but for the life of me I don't know why. Since there is ice on Oneida and I do have a two up . . .need to find safe travel on the big O and find some pot belly perch and walleye. I still don't have a warm fuzzy on traveling on O with a snowmobile/quad. I heard on Delta they are having to gun to keep out of the slush . . . not a pleasant thought of what might be below that slush or what might NOT be below that slush.

Conditions in front of Constantia were good for a sled, but the 4-wheelers were having trouble. Saw 1 guy out there with a 6 wheeler with army-tank treads on it and he was cruising along just fine as well. I wouldn't be concerned about ice either, I was out by 129-130 + there was plenty of ice for a sled or my sketchy butt wouldn't go out there. I'm the type when the ice groans I come off my bucket in 1/100 of a second + have to hold my water fast or i'll pee myself. 7-8 inches black ice, 2 white on top with 4-8 inches of snow by the bouys.

    • RV camping is a popular way of enjoying the great outdoors while still having the comfort and convenience of home. It's a lifestyle that many people are choosing, from full-time RVers to weekend warriors who use their RVs for occasional getaways. In this essay, we'll explore the pros and cons of RV camping lifestyle and how it can impact your life.   Pros of RV Camping Lifestyle Flexibility: One of the biggest advantages of RV camping is the flexibility it offers. You can go wherever you want, whenever you want. There's no need to worry about booking accommodation or sticking to a schedule. You can change your plans on the fly and explore new places without any restrictions.   Cost Savings: RV camping can be more cost-effective than other forms of travel or traditional home ownership. You don't have to pay for hotels or restaurants, and you can save on rent or mortgage payments. RVs can be a great way to travel without breaking the bank, especially if you're a full-time RVer.   Outdoor Adventure: RV camping is a great way to enjoy the great outdoors. You can explore national parks, forests, and other natural wonders. RVs allow you to camp in remote areas that you wouldn't be able to access with traditional vehicles or accommodations.   Social Connections: RV camping can be a great way to meet new people and make friends. You'll find communities of like-minded people in RV parks, and many RVers are eager to share their experiences and knowledge with others.   Cons of RV Camping Lifestyle   Maintenance: RVs require regular maintenance, which can be time-consuming and expensive. You'll need to perform routine tasks like checking the tires, changing the oil, and winterizing the RV to keep it in good condition.   Limited Space: While RVs can be quite spacious, they are still limited in terms of living space compared to a traditional home. This can be challenging for full-time RVers who are used to having more space.   Driving: Driving an RV can be intimidating, especially if you're new to it. RVs are larger than traditional vehicles, and they require more space to maneuver. This can be stressful for some people, especially in crowded areas or tight spaces.   Limited Amenities: RVs may not have all the amenities of a traditional home, such as a full-sized kitchen, washer and dryer, or bathtub. This can be a drawback for some people, especially those who are used to having these amenities at home.   How to Save Money Without Sacrificing Comfort of RV Camping   RV camping is a great way to experience the great outdoors while enjoying the comforts of home. However, the cost of an RV camping trip can quickly add up, and it can be challenging to stick to a budget. In this essay, we will explore tips on how to save money on an RV camping trip without sacrificing comfort.   Plan ahead: Planning ahead is essential when RV camping on a budget. Research campsite fees, fuel costs, and any other expenses associated with your trip. Make a budget and stick to it.   Choose budget-friendly campsites: There are plenty of budget-friendly campsites available that offer basic amenities, such as water and electricity hookups. National parks and state parks are great options for affordable camping. Some private campgrounds also offer lower rates than others, so do your research and find the best deals.   Cook your meals: One of the biggest expenses on an RV camping trip is eating out. Cooking your meals in your RV can save you a lot of money. Pack a cooler with food that can be easily cooked on a stove or grill. Consider meal planning ahead of time to make grocery shopping more efficient and cost-effective.   Use free amenities: Many campsites offer free amenities such as hiking trails, beaches, and playgrounds. Take advantage of these amenities and plan activities around them. Instead of paying for activities outside the campsite, use the free amenities offered.   Pack Efficiently: Space is limited in an RV, so pack efficiently. Make a list of everything you'll need and pack only what's necessary. When camping during winter, utilizing rechargeable hand warmers is advisable. These hand warmers come in various shapes and sizes, making them easy to carry around in a pocket or bag. Ocoopa provides excellent rechargeable hand warmers that also work as portable power banks, enabling you to charge other devices. These hand warmers come with various heat settings, allowing you to control the temperature to your preference.   Save on fuel: Fuel costs can be a significant expense on an RV camping trip. To save on fuel costs, plan your route ahead of time and choose the most fuel-efficient route. Keep your RV well-maintained, ensure tires are properly inflated, and avoid speeding, as these factors can impact fuel efficiency.   Reduce energy consumption: Energy costs can add up quickly when RV camping. Consider using LED lights, which are more energy-efficient than traditional bulbs. Use natural light during the day to avoid using lights. Also, unplug electronics when they are not in use to save on energy consumption. Rent instead of owning: If you only plan to go RV camping once or twice a year, consider renting an RV instead of owning one. Renting an RV can be a more affordable option than owning, as you only pay for the time you use the RV.
    • Speaking of birds. Here is a grouse that was out along the side of the driveway this afternoon. I am getting ready to go out and look for the northern nights. I missed them last night.
