So i pulled my auto out for some late season phesant hunting and tried to switch chokes to find out i forgot to pull it out and oil it after my last goose hunt blush.gif...i bought it used and i've been having problems with it since day one with the choke freezing in usualy due to rust...this time nothing i try will get it out and now the threads where you put the choke wrench are pretty much toast crazy.gif, yea rookie mistake but now hear i am frozen choke and no way to get it out. Right now i have it soaking in oil because im all out of ideas except maybe heating it up but wondering if that will mess up the barrell? My last resort it to bring it to dalton outdoors but is there anything that they can even do to get it out? Anything suggestions will help now im all out of ideas?????

After you get the barrel warm with the dryer hit the choke tube on the inside with a chiller. If nothing else you can use one of those aresol cans of air and turn it upside down. Other than that a gunsmith would be best save for an overgrown easy out or something. WD40 may work better than plain oil or if it is truly a rust problem try some automatic transmission fluid. I've got a barrel at home with a choke that was stuck in it so bad neither I (with an entire shop full of tools tried) nor the gun smith (with heavan only knows what tried) could get it out. It actually split in there now after trying to use the impact wrench rigged up to the choke tube wrench (that snapped into pieces too).

Be glad they got it out. I'm still thinking some day I'll get that one out and get that barrel re-tapped for another choke, but I don't know how it will happen??? crazy.gif

I have used what they call "liquid wrench" to get them out when really stuck. It's a anti cease spray that you put on bolts when the rust up badly. I heated up the barrel with a blow dryer and then sprayed this on and it worked one time, the other time I let it soak in the liquid wrench overnight and then heated it up and it broke free. Now I use oil(not wd-40) on the threads of the choke tube every time I clean the gun. wd-40 will dry out fast and will not help after a week or so. air oil is the best for keeping the threads lubed. Only issue is now the choke will loosen by itself after shooting it a bit.
